I. Objectives
 Determine the working application of a hydraulics door of silo.
 Familiarization of the components or equipment of a circuit diagram
 Design and draw a circuit diagram for a hydraulic vertical drill press
and how its mechanism of safety works
 Benefits of learning the basic concept of a hydraulic vertical drill
press

II. Introduction

A drilling machine comes in many shapes and sizes, from small hand-held
power drills to bench mounted and finally floor-mounted models. They can
perform operations other than drilling, such as countersinking, counterboring,
reaming, and tapping large or small holes. Because the drilling machines can
perform all of these operations, this chapter will also cover the types of drill bits,
took, and shop formulas for setting up each operation.

Safety plays a critical part in any operation involving power equipment. This
chapter will cover procedures for servicing, maintaining, and setting up the work,
proper methods of selecting tools, and work holding devices to get the job done
safely without causing damage to the equipment, yourself, or someone
nearby. is used to cut holes into or through metal, wood, or other materials

Drilling machines use a drilling tool that has cutting edges at its point. This
cutting tool is held in the drill press by a chuck or Morse taper and is rotated and
fed into the work at variable speeds. Drilling machines may be used to perform
other operations. They can perform countersinking, boring, counterboring, spot
facing, reaming, and tapping Drill press operators must know how to set up the
work, set speed and feed, and provide for coolant to get an acceptable finished
product. The size or capacity of the drilling machine is usually determined by the
largest piece of stock that can be center-drilled
III. Application
The hydraulic cylinder controls the vertical feed of the drill head.
The drill head should feed quickly to the part to be drilled. It should then
drill slowly into the part. The return speed of the drill should be
independent of the speed control. Note: The operator must be able to stop
the cylinder in any position.

VI. Functions

Double Acting Cylinder – a cylinder that has a two port at each end by
moving the piston in a extend and retract action

4/2 Way Hand Lever Valve – Is used for the control of hydraulic flow rates
and is actuated manually. Also, it acts as the lever that makes the double
acting cylinder extend and retract. Used for the control of volumetric flow
rates, this valve is actuated manually and engages in three positions.
Characteristic of this valve, apart from its method of actuation, is that port P
and T are connected in the mid-position.

Shut Off Valve – a valve where the oil flows regulate; it has a switch where it
can be off.

Pressure Gauge – an instrument to measure and indicate the pressure or

fluid intensity of the system.

Pressure Relief Valve – it protects the pump by regulating the pressure of

the medium coming to the system and limit the pressure in the system.

Hydraulic Power Pack – it is the power system of the hydraulics; Converts

the primary drive source into a hydraulic fluid flow. It is composed of a pump,
motor, pump, gauge, switch and etc.

2/ 3Way hand lever Valve - The valve is used for the control of hydraulic flow
rates and is actuated manually. It automatically returns into its normal position
as a result of spring force. The piston moves only if the 4/2-way hand lever is
at left and it only function when at off or middle position
VII. Procedure

1.) Lay out the different sizes of hose to be use in the experiment. And even

prepare the pressure release key in case needed

2.) Set up the components based on the circuit diagram. Familiarization of

the components must be applied

3.) Make sure the hose of the pneumatic circuits is snog and tight for safety

purposes.

4.) Connect the one-way flow control valve in the port P of the hydraulic

pump.

5.) Apply the previous component such as 4/2-way lever the four ports in

the pressure gauge and connect it to the port P of the 4/2 way hand lever

valve just like what is shown from the circuit diagram.

6.) From the circuit diagram connect the port a of the 4/2-way hand lever

valve to the right of the double acting cylinder

7.) From the setup connect the 2/ way hand lever valve to right of it to the

port P of the pressure gauge and connect it to the Port T for return.

8.) At first position the 4/2-way hand lever must be at the middle position at

the same time the 2/way hand lever must be at on position (right position)

manually operated by hands at the same time.

9.) At the and connection 2/ way hand lever must be at off position same

goes with the 4/2-way hand lever valve must be at left must control it the

same so the pump will move its position

IX. Evaluation

In this experiment, our team design a hydraulic system for a hydraulic

vertical drill press using a 4/2-way hand lever valve and 2/way hand lever

valve. The components use in this application is the same as the previous

components such as double acting cylinder, 4/2-way hand lever valve,2/way

hand lever valve pressure relief valve, shut off valve and etc. the mechanism

works which the double acting cylinder is only operated when 2/3-way first

positing is at on and 4/2 way is at the middle connection and for the AND

connection to operate the cylinder must be 2/3-way must be at off and the

lever of the 4/2 way valve is at the left, that’s the only time the cylinder will

move its initial position.

X. Conclusion

Therefore, I conclude that a hydraulic vertical drill press by a

Hydraulic system which makes the drill press move in a safer manner it

must be operated with both hands that operates by a human in order to

move the drill press, in this experiment safety of the machine user is being

implied so that the cause of casualty will be eliminated for safe working
