OpenEnterprise SCADA
Proven & Robust OSI PI Historian Interface

• Data from RTU’s is collected (1+2) and

stored in redundant OpenEnterprise
historian (3)
• Live data is transferred to a PI Historian (6)
using OPC DA (4); OpenEnterprise OPC
DA Server handles failover between the
SCADA database servers
• Data held back on the RTU’s is backfilled
into PI when it becomes available using the

Alarmas y Eventos
 Alarm Windows present a simple tabular view of the
alarm system
 Alarm Windows can display either realtime (current)
alarms, or an alarm history (including ‘events’)
 A single alarm window can include alarms/events from
multiple servers concurrently
 There are approx 70 different attributes per alarm
 You can display any subset of these
 You can filter or sort on any of these
 Color and appearance of the alarm can be controlled
based on the alarm conditon, priority and status (e.g.
acknowledged,cleared etc)

Reportes
 Using the Report Configuration tool, select an Excel template.
 You develop these templates using the OE Reporting plug-in, and
specify, for example, that the report runs daily at 8:00 a.m. and
includes data from a particular set of filters or gas wells.
 Report configuration options enable you to send the final reportvia
email (as an attached .PDF) to critical opearations staff andpost
HTML copies on the company in-house web site.
 You can also generate a CSV version of the same data and
transmit it to corporate headquarters for inclusion in a billing
package.
 You can define all these report configurations only once, and the
report process then occurs automatically without the need for
custom scripting or programming. You control the content,
formats, and destinations.

Key Messages and Differentiators
• Emerson has an integrated DCS and SCADA solution
 RTU timestamps are maintained
 RTU history and alarms can be uploaded
 Both Emerson and non-Emerson RTUs can be integrated into DeltaV

• Reduced the lifecycle costs

 No need to maintain two autonomous systems in the control room
 Operator skill needs are focused to only one HMI environment
 Reduced training costs
 Reduced costs. Displays and reports configuration only required once
 SCADA data is available within the DCS and can be used in control strategies

• Emerson is End to End provider of Intelligent Oilfield

RTU Versions
You can view ControlWave, ROC, and FloBoss CPU and Boot firmware version information at the
following levels in the Network Communications pane; LocalHost, IPCommChannel, RTU
Collections and by Site (Plant Area). Each level has a corresponding View that can be updated
using a Read Request. The RTU Collections ReadVersion can be triggered manually or using a
Schedule, the rest need to be triggered manually.

OpenEnterprise v3’s
Other Great Features
Asset Model
Feature:
Enables of creation of database objects that are represent physical
assets/and or equipment (wells, pumps, meters etc).

Functionality:
– Allows different RTU types for the
same asset. A meter definition is not tied to specific RTU brand
or model
– Ability to visualize site rather than RTU. Hide the details of RTU
& hardware from the user
– RTU Equipment & Protocol Agnostic Implementation

Benefits:
 Standardization of ‘field assets’ at the SCADA host
 Increased productivity System Engineering via reusability of
objects to source data to displays & reports
 Reduced complexity mixture of RTU brands & models

[File Name or Event] • Emerson Confidential • 11/9/2017 • Slide 135

RTU Templates
Feature:
OpenEnterprise allows for ‘RTU template’ to be
created (basically a model of an RTU) that define the
polling and communication parameters.

Functionality
Ability to create identical RTUs in the database (Re-
use of communication definitions)
– RTUs can be added from templates,
connected devices or RTU load files e.g. ROC
.800 file
– Templates reduce configuration time and
system maintenance
– Templates can be exported and imported

Benefits
 Ability to quickly add RTUs.
 Consistency and easier management of larger
install RTUs.

Calculation Engine

• Mathematical and logical operations

• User defined Formulae (functions)
can be re-used
• Wide range of functions supported
• Supports time based functions (e.g.
accumulators)
• Output saved in calculation, or in
signal
• Schedule, or trigger on change of
value
• Trigger SQL or external applications
• Monitor database queries

Action Engine
Graphical editor to define data handling
• Optional Server component
• Graphical tool used to define “Workflows”
• Workflows are graphical macros that can modify data or
communicate with RTUs

• Workflows can be triggered in multiple ways

– Data changes
– Communications events
– Schedules
• Assets allow definition of ‘read’ and ‘write’
workflows to be specified
• Typical Applications:
– EFM Configuration data management
(e.g. upload/download/restore on reset/validate)
– RTU configuration
(e.g. recipe download, Gas Composition download)
– Global Actions
(e.g. shut in multiple wells concurrently)
