10 ROPE GRIPPER TESTINGS

10.1 Power interruption test

Step Action Illustration/Note

1 Turn inhibit landing calls ON
2 Turn the test switch on the side of the
pumping unit OFF (all models).
Alternatively turn the control panel main
switch OFF (all models except 618).
3 Turn the test switch or the control panel
main switch ON.
Ensure that the car, car roof and the shaft are
empty and secured.
The rope gripper should activate to clamp the
ropes.
The pump unit should operate and open the
brake enabling normal operation of the
elevator. With model 618 move the valve
lever up and turn the test switch OFF.
Open the jaws with hand pump. After
reaching open position turn the test switch
ON and move the valve lever down.

10.2 Overspeed test for ascending car

1 Drive the empty car to the lowest floor.
2 Turn inhibit landing calls ON.
3 With an empty car, overspeed the car
upwards while keeping the machine brake
open.
NOTE! Be prepared to stop the car by using
the machine brake, if the rope
gripper does not operate.
4 If it is impractical to overspeed the car, drive
the car upwards at nominal speed with the
machine brake held open.
Trip the overspeed governor switch
manually.
5 Return the overspeed governor switch back
to its original position to close the safety
circuit.
Ensure that the car, car roof and the shaft are
empty and secured.
The overspeed governor switch will activate
the rope gripper. At least the rope gripper
reduces the car speed to the speed for which
the buffer is designed.
The rope gripper will cause the car to slow
down and stop.
The closed safety circuit activates the
hydraulic pump which reloads the brake.
With model 618 move the valve lever up.
Turn the test switch OFF.
Open the jaws with hand pump. After
reaching open position turn the test switch
ON. Move the valve lever down.
