She made the transition June 9, 1975, at 11:35 a.m. We ask you to rejoice with us in her release into the larger life for truly has she given of herself for others, without reservation, throughout a very ded- icated and productive life. Her preparation for the spiritual leadership of B.O. T. A. began almost as soon as she was born, The date was October 28, 1912, in Cleveland, Ohio. Most of her childhood, however, was spent in New York City where, at an astonishingly early age she exper: enced states of consciousness which many consider to be the ultimate spiritual goal. She experienced a state of Infinite Peace~Bliss-Love as an almost nightly occurrence, a state which sustained her through a childhood which included — as it does for most true guides of humanity — experiences of great sorrow and pain also, quite beyond what most of us have to endure. ‘The adversities that a leader such as she is required to experience are actually repre- sentations of whole areas of human suffering focussed into seemingly personal occur- rences. For her these included an illness in her early adulthood that left her lame and required that she wear a brace on one leg for the rest of her life. Through these personally experienced World Pains, there unfolded within her a compassionate ‘and tender concern for the suffering of others that made its alleviation a principle motiva~ tion throughout her life. There was combined with this wondrous quality of loving concern in our beloved leader a breadth of wisdom that encompassed vast fields of human knowledge. She unfolded it particularly — so far as this lifetime was concerned — during the period in her early twenties when she was recuperating from the illness that left her lame. Unable to work and limited further by extreme poverty — for this period fell within the depression years-of the 30!s-— Ann Davies made the public library almost a second home. Im- pelled by an intense desire to know, and with an amazing ability to assimilate vast concepts in short periods of time, she built a foundation of knowledge that included most of the religion-philosophies of both East and West, plus several branches of natural science. It was with this foundation of knowledge, combined with the insights into existence that unveiled themselves to her during continuing mystical experiences that she was led to the meeting with Paul Foster Case in 1943. Although they had never met in this life before, there was an instant and mutual recognition. Because of her great stature, she was able to recognize him on sight even before she was exposed to the masterly instruc- tions in Tarot and Qabalah to which he gave the New Age form and which you continue to receive to this day. This, for us, historic moment, brought Ann Davies into the work of B,O. 7. A. From that meeting forward she entered fully into it. Much there was to do in the little hilltop house that served as home, office and place for assembling and mailing the lessons. Dr. Case was physically very frail at that time and without any dependable helpers in his efforts to get the lessons mailed to members, With the astonishing energy and zeal that Ann Davies put into anything that "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain thas build it . kindled her dedication, she set to work doing whatever needed to be done, She labored 14 hours a day varityping, typing, mimeographing, assembling, collating, folding, numbering and stamping the lessons, Besides this she nursed Paul Case back to health, did the bookkeeping, took care of correspondence, corrected tests and gave counsel. ‘All in all she accomplished single-handed what requires a whole staff of busy workers today. Jn her devotion she labored, scarcely aware that the lameness was worsening in some respects under the strain, She worked with such joy that she was a delight to everyone who came into contact with her always loving and irrepressibly humorous nature. Paul Case remarked to many of his friends and students that he had never before in his life encountered such extraordinary qualities in one human being as Ann Davies pos sessed. Her combination of emanating love, intellectual perception and mystical aware- ness never ceased to amaze him. In 1954 Paul Case left this earth life and the responsibility for the entire work fell to ‘Ann Davies. Under her devoted care and inspired teaching the work expanded many- fold into the great spiritual center of learning that is our heritage today. In 1964 she fulfilled a destiny she had been mystically informed of earlier when she brought the New Zealand branch of B.O.T. A, into existence. Long before outer contact was made with New Zealand, she had an inner experience wherein she was aware that one day she would bring back into the fold 'lost sheep! belonging to the ancient tradition of which B.O.T. A. is the latest reincarnation. She spent many months during several visits in the 60's on that continent lecturing extensively and establishing a large and still very much flourishing branch of B.O. T. A. ‘The leader of that New Zealand branch, Rev. Will Chesterman, in describing the impact Ann Davies had upon him when he first saw her and heard her speak is a description that has been reiterated in different words by many others, When our Frater Will entered the lecture room in New Zealand where she was speaking and looked upon her for the first time, he experienced a radiance emanating from her that he described as sparkling diamonds of light that enfolded and embraced him in a love that seemed Cos- mic in its source. ‘This great love which she emanated and which others were able to receive in varying degrees, according to their receptivity and preparation, was perhaps the greatest treasure that she bestowed upon us. Her unique gift to humanity is the quality of love with which she has thus pervaded the Ancient Wisdom teachings. She devoted her energies to teaching the great truths that help all who seek to find the liberating Self within. From her vast wisdom she extended a brilliant light to the world that will shine forth to guide aspirants for many epochs to come. Join with us in giving thanks to the Lord of Life for having blessed us with her presence, for having caused her to pass our way. Join with us in extending our love to her for having loved us so much throughout these many fruitful years. In accordance with the rules of our tradition, Ann Davies appointed our beloved Rev. Jacob Fuss to follow her as Spiritual Director and Prolocutor General of B. 0. T. A. ‘As her much cherished husband, he has been intimately associated with her in carry- ing out the work of B.O, T. A. for the past ten years. We ask you to give your support to this great soul in his continuance of the work of which we are all custodians as mem- bers of the body of Light which is B.O.T. A.
