SERMON: ANOINTING FOR GREATNESS

TEXT: Ps 89:20-23; Acts 13:21-22

To be great is to be unstoppable, to be the head, to excel and to succeed where others have failed.

Anointing is the supernatural endowment from God that enables man to do extraordinary things
that are beyond human ability. When we talk about anointing, we talk about:

1. The power of God Luke 1: 34-35

2. The spirit of God Luke 4:18
3. The hands and the backing of God Neh 8:18

Anointing for greatness is the supernatural power of God and his spirit that will make you excel,
achieve your goals, possess your possession and rule over your enemies.

For example, Joseph got to the peak of his career as a prime minister in a foreign land because the
spirit of God was found in him Gen 41:38. Zech 4:6 says, “Not by might, not by power but by my
Spirit, says the Lord.”

Isaac waxed great and grew exceedingly because he had the backing of the Lord Gen 26:1-5; 12-14.

David became great, killed his Goliath and ruled over the nation of Israel because of the anointing
and because he was God’s favourite.

What to Be Done to Be Unstoppable

a. Be a part of God’s household Eph 1:19; and know the God that you serve. Dan 11:32.
b. Be an addicted person of the word of God. A tireless reader (eater) and doer of the word of
God. Josh 1:8; Jer 15:16
c. Always see advantages in adversity Num 13:25-33
d. Take to instructions Num 27:5-11 and always do things right Jer 35:13-16
e. Seek the Lord with all your zeal. Ps 24 : 6

In conclusion, as you too will find his word and ‘eat’ it like Jeremiah, take to instructions of your
heavenly father like the son of Rechab and seek him in this new dispensation. You will be raised up,
lifted and highly exalted. Isa 52:13.

LAUGH IT OFF

SLEEPING IN CHURCH

While in church a lady dozed off during the preaching during which the pastor changed the
topic. Suddenly, the lady snapped out of her slumber and jumped to her feet. She noticed that
she was the only one standing.
She also noticed the shock on the faces of the entire congregation looking at her including her
husband and daughter. The stares confused her, and then the pastor repeated his last
statement:

"This is your last chance! If you are a witch, stand up for deliverance or else you die!"

Moral: Be careful, the Church is not your bedroom.

FUN FACT COLUMN

What makes the letter "J" very special about ‘JESUS’ is -JESUS was born in JUDEA which is in
JERUSALEM. His father was JOSEPH the son of JACOB. He was baptised by JOHN the Baptist in the
most popular river JORDAN; which is located at the wilderness of JUDEA. JAMES and JOHN were his
best disciples, he was also known as the king of the JEWS. He was sold by JUDAS Iscariot just for
thirty pieces of silver. When he died, JOSEPH of Arimathea requested for his body and was buried in
JERUSALEM, that's why he is the God of JUSTICE. His name is JEHOVAH JIREH.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

LESSON 31 TOPIC: THE GRACE OF GIVING 3RD APRIL, 2016

Memory verse: Luke 6:38 Bible Text: 2 Cor 8:1-15

Introduction: The body of Christ today needs to be clearly taught about sound Biblical principles on
the proper use of money, since oftentimes it is a neglected issue. Our money can be used to gain
eternal riches by spending it on the spreading of the gospel. Scriptural giving as a doctrine is equally
as important as any other doctrine (1Timothy 4:16)

Lesson Outline:

1. The basis for giving

2. The Christian’s responsibility
3. Blessed are the givers

Conclusion: Pray today for the grace to give. You will not be a loser for it.

LESSON 32 TOPIC: BACKSLIDING 10TH APRIL, 2016

Memory verse: Heb 10:38 Bible Text: Heb 10:19-39

Introduction: Often we find someone who starts off very well In the Christian race and then cools off
later. Many times someone who used to be very hot for the Lord may even leave the Lord
completely. We are all kept by the Grace and strength of the Lord. However, we must constantly
remember the warning of 1 Cor 10:12 because if we deliberately refuse His Grace and assistance, we
will fall.

Lesson Outlines:

1. What is backsliding and how does it happen?

2. Causes and results of backsliding

Conclusion: To the backslider God says, return and be forgiven, return and be healed (Jeremiah 3:22;
Hosea 14:4). Are you backsliding? Return to God today. Tomorrow may be too late.

LESSON 33 TOPIC: CHRISTIANITY AND GOVERNANCE 17TH APRIL, 2016

Memory verse: Revelation 5:10 Bible Text: Romans 13:1-6

Introduction: Governance is an act of administration, leading and exercising authority over a group
of people. God has called us into a life of influence, control and dominion (Genesis 1:28). Christians
are to take charge and the issue governance is no exception. As the light of the world, we are to
dispel the darkness of unrighteousness, sycophancy etc (Matt 5:15-16).

Lesson Outline:

1. The View of God on governance

2. Why Christians should be involved in governance
3. Biblical examples of those who governed

Conclusion: God instituted governance. It is not a secular concept or the creation of people.
Believers should, therefore, take their rightful place in deciding the destiny of their nations and
turn the kingdom of this world to the kingdom of God which is God’s divine mandate for us.

LESSON 34 TOPIC: CORRUPT COMMUNCATION AMONG CHRISTIANS 24TH APRIL, 2016

Memory verse: Eph 4:29 Bible Text: Col 3:8-9

Introduction: Communication is the act or process of using words, sounds, signs or behaviour to
express or exchange information. Communication can either be verbal or non-verbal. While it is
expected that Christians exchange healthy communication, there is found among some Christians
unhealthy or corrupt communications (Colossians 3:16; Eph 5:3-4).

Lesson Outline:

1. Biblical examples and the consequences

2. How to avoid corrupt communication

Conclusion: “evil communication corrupts good manners.” (1 Cor 15:33). Christians should avoid the
use of ungodly languages and shun every appearance of evil.

HYMN

1ST SUNDAY; OH WORSHIP THE KING

1. Oh, worship the King, all-glorious above,

Oh, gratefully sing His pow’r and His love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.

2. Oh, tell of His might, oh, sing of His grace,

Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space;
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

3. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

4. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,

In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

2ND SUNDAY; WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,

Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised

Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

3RD SUNDAY ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER

1. All to Jesus I surrender;

all to him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust him,
in his presence daily live.
Refrain:
I surrender all, I surrender all,
all to thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

2. All to Jesus I surrender;

humbly at his feet I bow,
worldly pleasures all forsaken;
take me, Jesus, take me now.
(Refrain)

3. All to Jesus I surrender;

make me, Savior, wholly thine;
fill me with thy love and power;
truly know that thou art mine.
(Refrain)

4. All to Jesus I surrender;

Lord, I give myself to thee;
fill me with thy love and power;
let thy blessing fall on me.
(Refrain)

5. All to Jesus I surrender;

now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to his name!
(Refrain)

4TH SUNDAY THE GREAT PHYSICIAN

1 The great Physician now is near,

The sympathizing Jesus;
He speaks the drooping heart to cheer,
Oh, hear the voice of Jesus.

o Refrain:
Sweetest note in seraph song,
Sweetest name on mortal tongue;
Sweetest carol ever sung,
Jesus, blessed Jesus.

2. Your many sins are all forgiv’n,

Oh, hear the voice of Jesus;
Go on your way in peace to heav’n,
And wear a crown with Jesus.

3. All glory to the dying Lamb!

I now believe in Jesus;
I love the blessed Savior’s name,
I love the name of Jesus.

4. His name dispels my guilt and fear,

No other name but Jesus;
Oh, how my soul delights to hear
The charming name of Jesus.

And when to that bright world above,

We rise to see our Jesus,
We’ll sing around the throne of love
His name, the name of Jesus.

YOUTH AND SINGLES COLUMN

A pretty and wealthy woman was serving a life sentence in prison.

Angry and resentful about her plight she had decided that she would rather die than to live
another year in prison.
Over the years she had become good friends with one of the prison caretakers. The care-
taker’s job, among others, was to bury those prisoners who died in a graveyard just outside
the prison walls. When a prisoner died, the caretaker rang a bell, which was heard by
everyone. The caretaker then got the body and put it in a casket. Next, he entered his office to
fill out the death certificate before returning to the casket to nail the coffin’s lid shut. Finally,
he put the casket on a wagon to take it to the graveyard and bury it.
Knowing this routine, the woman devised an escape plan and shared it with the caretaker:

The next time the bell rang, the woman would leave her cell and sneak into the dark room
where the coffins were kept. She would slip into the coffin with the dead
body while the caretaker was filling out the death certificate. When the care-taker returned,
he would nail the lid shut and take the coffin outside the prison with the woman in the coffin
along with the dead body. He would then bury the coffin. The woman having pre-arranged
with the caretaker for special vents in the coffin knew there would be enough air for her to
breathe until later in the evening when the caretaker would return to the graveyard under the
cover of darkness, dig up the coffin, open it, and set her free.
She would also carry along a small flashlight to cope with the darkness beneath until the hour
of expected freedom.

The caretaker was reluctant to go along with this plan, but since he and the woman had
become good friends over the years, and knowing that he stood to gain a lot from this pretty
and wealthy woman, he more than agreed to do it.

The woman waited several weeks before someone in the prison died. She was asleep in her
cell when she heard the death bell ring. She got up and slowly walked down the hallway. She
was nearly caught a couple of times. Her heart was beating fast. She opened the door to the
darkened room where the coffins were kept. Quietly in the dark, she found the coffin that
contained the dead body, carefully climbed into the coffin and pulled the lid shut to wait for
the caretaker to come and nail the lid shut.

Soon she heard footsteps and the pounding of the hammer and nails. Even though she was
very uncomfortable in the coffin with the dead body, she knew that with each nail she was
one step closer to freedom.
The coffin was lifted onto the wagon and taken outside to the graveyard. She could feel the
coffin being lowered into the ground. She didn't make a sound as the coffin hit the bottom of
the grave with a thud. Finally she heard the dirt dropping on to the top of the wooden coffin.
It was only a matter of time and she would be free at last. After several minutes of absolute
silence, she began to laugh happily feeling free already and chanting she was free! she was
free! Feeling curious, she decided to light the flashlight to find out the identity of the dead
prisoner beside her in the coffin. To her horror, she discovered that she was lying next
to the CARETAKER - her only hope to freedom!

Many people believe they have life all figured out, that they are well-connected and can
arrange or pre-arrange things to their favour. Sometimes it just doesn't turn out the
way they planned it. Only one thing never fails - GOD. Faith in God alone never disappoints.
