HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PAGSULHUGON NATIONAL

HIGH SCHOOL, S.Y. 2017-2018

INTRODUCTION

In Senior High School Life, there are instances that the students face various challenges

related to academic work and requirements which leads them to experience stress. Madya Kouzma

et. Al (2004) pronounced that the highest sources of these stress were examinations and outcomes,

to much things to accomplish, worrying about the future, making choices about career, studying

for examinations, amount to learn, need to imposed by others and the pressure to do well and

beyond better at academic performance.

Give a definition of academic stress here and its classifications.

Research & write statistical data about academic stress in the Philippines and international.

Give the impact/effect of academic stress to learners . Narrate how the filipino learners are

affected by academic stress to add personal touch to the write up.

Academic stress being one of the learner challenges can cause them imbalance, with all

those impact of stress to student learners, it is implied and necessary that they should become more

responsible, disciplined and prepared with necessary coping strategies in order to avoid stress and

eventually sustain good performance in all their subjects.

Fisher, S. (1994) reveals that students should explore the origin and nature of the academic

stress and personal vulnerabilities they are experiencing in order to better understand and recognize

suitable coping strategies and practices that can truly be effective in reducing if not eradicating

stress in their academic life.

According to Psychology (specify), coping means to invest own conscious effort to solve

personal and interpersonal problems in order to master, minimize and tolerate stress and conflict.

Psychological coping mechanisms are commonly termed coping strategies or coping skills. Please

look for and write another definition of coping from a different author.

The term coping mechanism is generally classified into adaptive and maladaptive coping

strategies. Adaptive also known as constructive coping strategies are truly effective in reducing

stress. On the contrary, the other coping strategies may be coined as maladaptive which increases

if not sustain the learners’ academic stress. It gives us the notion that maladaptive coping is also

described when looking at the outcome as non-coping (please clarify the idea or point of this

statement Ms. Christina Malate). – please add more information to this conceptualization of

coping mechanism and please always put your in-text citation.

Furthermore, the term coping generally refers to reactive coping i.e. the coping response

which flows the stressor. Subconscious or non-conscious strategies (e.g. Defense mechanisms) are

generally excluded from the area of coping.

The effectiveness of the coping effort typically depends on the type of stress, the individual

and the circumstances. Coping response are partly controlled by personality particularly an

individual’s habitual traits but also partly by the social environment specifically the nature of the

stressful environment.
