Assignment title Digital Graphics Characters and Logo

Scenario

Elite Design is currently in the process of designing digital graphics for four new computer
games. The Video games will feature two new characters and a logo. There have been
four successful computer games already which feature various digital graphics and it is
your job to design two new original digital characters and a logo which will feature in the
new release. You are also required to create the game packaging for the new release,
this will be in a DVD box format.

All digital graphics will be created from sketches that you have created. For the digital
graphics to be successful you will need to have a clear understanding of how to generate
ideas for digital graphics. In this assignment you will create a proposal, develop ideas
using mood boards and create original digital images. In order for your characters to fit
the theme of the other games you need to research past games in the series.

Your task is to develop two digital characters a logo and game packaging for ONE game of
your choice from the list below. All digital graphics will be created from sketches that you
have created. For the digital graphics and logo to be successful you will need to have a
clear understanding of how to generate ideas for digital graphics.

In this assignment you will create a proposal, develop ideas using mood boards, create
original source images this means you create them and plan your game graphics and logo
using design sheets.

The release date for the game advertisement and graphics will be 16th December 2016
ready for the Christmas market.

You have a choice of seven games but you only have to develop two characters a logo and
packaging for one.

Task 1

Proposal

Your task is to develop a proposal for your computer game digital graphics.

You will need to include the following headings:

Target audience
Identify the intended audience of the games graphics, eg children, teenagers, parents.
Decide the overall impact on the audience, eg to inform, to shock, to amuse?

Range of graphics materials to be used


Identify what materials the graphics and logo will contain eg photography, text, drawings
and scans.

What house style is to be used


Identify how you are going to style your digital graphics and logo eg what colours, text and
logos you will use.

Description of the methods of the development of graphics to be used.

Identify what digital graphic techniques you will use to develop your digital graphics. e.g
Live trace and brush techniques.

Task 2

Ideas

Your task is to create ideas for the development of digital graphics for your advertising
campaign. The ideas will be developed on a digital A3 mood board in Adobe Photoshop
CS6. The mood board will contain images, text, photographs that relate to your chosen
game. You can develop more than one mood board.
(Consider Logos, Characters, Textures and Text.)

Design Sheets
For this task you will create three design sheets, one for each character and one for your
game logo.
You need to sketch out each character and logo, these sketches will be scanned into the
computer and developed into professional graphics using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe
Photoshop.

Task 4

Create Digital Graphics

Your task is to create digital graphics using your sketches from your design sheets. Your
final digital graphics will have been live traced using Adobe Illustrator and professionally
coloured and shaded using Adobe Photoshop.
You need to create an historical document that will include screen shots of the
development of your graphics and logo this will be fully annotated showing what methods
and techniques you have used to create your digital graphics and will be completed in
Microsoft word.

Be as creative as possible and use the below document sizes to complete this task to a
high standard.

Your images need to be created at the following document settings:

assignment.

Task 5
Historical Document

This will be completed in Microsoft Word and will show clearly how you have developed
your digital graphics through annotated screen shots and descriptions.
Include a contents page, headers, footers and page numbers
