True Friendship
“Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods.” Artistotle

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they
fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe unto him that is alone when he falleth; for he
hath not another to help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.

Clearly, friendship is important. We need a good friend. We need to be a good friend.

A very basic definition of a friend is someone we can be ourselves with. Someone who
is a trusted and favored companion. One with whom we have a mutual love and
respect.

A noted psychologist once said, "In all times in our lives we must have at least one
person who cares for us and whom we care for ourselves. If we do not have this person
we won't be able to fulfill our basic needs.” Well, it is true. I think most psychologists
and Christian counselors agree. All of us need to know we are loved, accepted and are
significant.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down oneʼs life for oneʼs friend.”
John 15:13 NIV

A perfect example of a true friend is Jesus. He willingly laid down His life for us on
Calvary. He proved He loved us that much.

How do we know God loves and accepts us?

"But God demonstrated his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ
died for us." Romans 5:8 (NIV)

God loves us with a perfect love (I John 4:18) and while we were still sinners, Jesus
laid down His life for us (Romans 5:8).

Love and acceptance sets us free in our relationships to be ourselves. Imagine if we

could really believe and understand that God fully accepts us! He does. It is because
of His Son Jesus. (Romans 15:7)

It is a gift of grace.

“For it is by free grace (Godʼs unmerited favor) that you are saved ([a]delivered from
judgment and made partakers of Christʼs salvation) through [your] faith. And this
[salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own
striving], but it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8 (Amplified)

If you know Jesus as your Savior, you are a forgiven sinner saved by his amazing
grace. If you do not know Jesus as Savior, why not now. Donʼt choose to live separated
from Him or under the judgment of God? The debt has been paid. Accept Jesus as
your Savior and as your friend. He HAS forgiven you. Humbly receive your
forgiveness and be free!

John 15:14-17 (NIV), “You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you
servants because a servant does not know his master's business; instead, I have called
you friends for everything I have learned from my father I have made known to know.
You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that
will last then the father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my
command: love each other.”

We have the truest most trusted friend...Jesus!
