SCHOOL NEWS

BISHOP FLORES SCHOLARS FUND: The deadline is fast approaching! February 28th will be the last day you can
apply to the Bishop Flores Scholars Fund. Go to the website to apply at http://www.bishopfloresscholars.org. If
you qualify for this scholarship fund you will be notified via email late March or early April.

“BLACK & WHITE” GALA 2018: Here are just a few…..Gala’s 10 reasons I’m going! No.10: With entrance to the
Gala ($60.00), you will receive $100.00 play money at the Las Vegas style casino tables. The more you play the
better your odds are at winning a Honolulu or Los Cabos vacation package! No.8: David Copperfield? Dave
Chappelle? Justin Timberlake? Liberace? Every star was born somewhere. You can say you were there for the
breakthrough performance of our very own Daryl O’Donnell, Live Auctioneer for the 2018 St. Columba Gala.
As a father of two students, Daryl has devoted his cooking expertise and countless hours to the St. Columba
community for more than eleven years. Raise your paddles during his dynamic presentation at the Live
Auction. This year, appearing at Sheraton Hotel, Aero Drive, next year appearing at Mandalay Bay, Las
Vegas. You'll see Daryl where it all began! No. 7: What’s a party without music? As official DJ for the 2016
Padres Season, and ranked #1 DJ by City Beat Magazine in 2017, Art Romero will make the St. Columba Gala
one of his musical venues on March 10th! Come hear what all the buzz is about. Art Romero, aka DJ Artform,
provides entertainment for Green Flash Brewing Co., Air Conditioned Lounge, the Rabbit Hole, the San Diego
Latino Film Festival, and more! Be sure not to miss the award-winning musical talent of DJ Artform at the St.
Columba Gala. Bring your dancing shoes - he’ll make everyone look good on the dance floor. No. 6: What
would you do with $5000? Travel with the family to Europe? Buy a 1967 VW Bug on Craigslist? Treat everyone
at the office to a cup of Kopi Luwak (from coffee beans digested by civet cats)? Be sure that you’re in the
running for $5000 by turning in your Gala Opportunity Drawing tickets! Don’t forget about the consolation
prize of $2500 (who said you couldn’t afford His and Her Louis Vuitton Archlight Sneakers?) and a
2nd consolation prize valued at $1000. No.5: Four Words: No Cooking, No Cleaning. What would date night be
without a scrumptious dinner placed before you? With your entry to the Black & White Gala, you’ll savor four
courses including imported and domestic cheese hors d’oeuvres, fresh salad, duet of chicken and beef with
roasted greens, and tantalizing dessert. Indulging in the chocolate fountain with berries, marshmallows, and
mini cheesecakes (when someone other than you is cleaning it) is worth the cost of admission alone. Have
the Gala bar uncork a bottle of wine to refine your Black & White VIP night. Invite family and friends to come
join an evening of fun Saturday, March 10th from 6:00 – 11:00 pm for dinner/dancing/live & silent auction/
gambling at The Four Points by Sheraton 8110 Aero Drive. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, and we need
YOUR help to make this a great success for our school community. Thank you to everyone who has stepped
forward to help, but there’s still lots to be done, so jump on board! If each of our families reach out and
support this event we can make it happen and our goal can become a reality.

5K DRAWING: We need every family to commit to “purchasing” the 5K tickets. The drawing for $5,000.00 is the
main profit of the event. Our children are the ones that benefit from our school facilities this fundraiser
provides. But we can’t do this without your help! The students from each class who sells the most tickets will
have a movie, pizza and popcorn in their classroom, and the highest seller may also bring one friend from
another grade to this afternoon party. So jump on board and let’s make this happen!

CATHOLIC SPORTS LEAGUE TRACK MEET: Saturday, March 10th from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm Catholic Sports Track
Meet will be held at Cathedral Catholic High School for grades K through 8th grade. Cost per athlete is $10.00.
Registration forms were sent home last week, and need to be returned by Wednesday, February 28th to Mr.
Fairchild. More forms are available in the school office.

RE-REGISTRATION 2018/2019: Important reminder: Registration forms for the upcoming school year are
available on the school website and in the school office. If your registration form is returned by March 16th, the
registration fee is $250.00 per child. After March 16th the registration fee is $300.00. Also, please remember
when paying your registration fee you need to include the PTG family fee of $200.00. If you have any
questions, please contact Ms. Navarro.
