  • Great Backyard Bird Count Field Trip Report at Huntington Reservation, Sunday, February 18, 2018 Report

    Four people joined the Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society hike. We started the hike with two people and two more joined in a little later. We started the hike on the bunny trail and found one Barred Owl! We continued from LENSC to Huntington beach where we observed several Gulls and Hawks. We didn't have many duck species, as the lake is still frozen close to shore and open water was far beyond our reach. Gull species included Ring-billed Gulls, Herring Gulls, and Great Black-backed Gulls. I tried hard to locate Glaucous and Iceland Gulls with no luck. There were also three Hawks present at Huntington Beach. One Red-tailed Hawk, one Red-shouldered Hawk, and one Cooper's Hawk (it was banded)! We watched and heard many American Crows overhead. We believe there were somewhere between 8 and 10 American Crows present. Also spotted my first Common Grackle of the year.

    Results:​ 4 Birders, 24 Species

    people and two more joined in a little later. We started the hike on the bunny trail and found
    one Barred Owl! We continued from Lake Erie Nature and Science Center to Huntington Beach
    where we observed several Gulls and Hawks. We didn't have many duck species, as Lake Erie is
    still frozen close to shore and open water was far beyond our reach. Gull species included
    Ring-billed Gulls, Herring Gulls, and Great Black-backed Gulls. I tried hard to locate Glaucous
    and Iceland Gulls with no luck. There were also three Hawks present at Huntington Beach. One
    Red-tailed Hawk, one Red-shouldered Hawk, and one Cooper's Hawk (it was banded)! We
