To whom it May Concern,

It is with great honor that I am asked to be a reference by your applicant, Sam Buemi, for the
Professor of Sociology position. Sam and I are colleagues in the General Studies Department at
Northcentral Technical College (NTC), and we have known each other for nearly five years.

Sam has been an active faculty member at NTC in which he has engaged in many roles within
the college including instructor, advisor, and researcher. He has consistently demonstrated
excellence in instructing rigorous yet innovative course content. Additionally, I am aware that
Sam is involved in collegial activities including International Club Advisor, faculty coach, and a
frequent in-service presenter. Also, I am aware that Sam has won awards at our college for his
dedication to teaching. Sam has also conveyed a consistent and strong interest in academic
research and has published in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Sam has consistently managed to create innovative teaching techniques, including the nationally
known technique “micro-flipping”; a practice based off of the flipped classroom approach.
There is no doubt that Sam is an innovator who blends the right combination of teaching
expertise, academic research, and student engagement.

Sam has a Master’s degree in sociology and is finishing his PhD in psychology. He has taught
sociology, psychology, and a host of other courses at NTC. His ability to instruct is recognized
by his peers throughout the college. I have no doubt that Sam will be an excellent addition to
your department and the college. Without reservation, Sam has my highest recommendation,
and I am strongly recommending Sam for this faculty position.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to follow up with this recommendation letter and
discuss the credentials, experience, and abilities Sam has to offer.

Sincerely,
Suzanne L. Ghrist-Priebe, PhD
