finally committed to scrapping the ATM
fees levied when customers use their
cards with other bank’s ATM.
ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac and Kiwibank
have all announced they will scrap the fee over
the coming weeks.
ANZ Bank New Zealand was the first bank
to remove the non-ANZ ATM fee on Monday,
February 19.
“In recent times we’ve been getting more
and more feedback from our customers that
they don’t think this type of fee is fair because
even though they’re using another bank’s
ATM, they’re still accessing their money,” said
Antonia Watson, ANZ New Zealand Managing
Director Retail and Business Banking.
This was followed by announcements by
other banks including ASB and Kiwibank on
Tuesday, February 20.
“We support industry moves to eliminate this
fee,” Russell Jones, ASB’s Executive General
Manager for Retail Banking said.
“This change will benefit our customers and
provide them with a greater level of freedom
and flexibility to decide when and where to
access their money,” Mr Jones further added.

plan is underway to form the Fiji
Haemophilia Foundation that will look
after the interest of those diagnosed with
haemophilia.
This was confirmed by co-founder Roshika
Deo at the first haemophiliac foundation in
Fiji and the first medical symposium focused
on haemophilia at the Nadi Bay Resort in
Wailoaloa Road.
Haemophilia, which is also spelled
hemophilia, is a mostly inherited genetic
disorder that impairs the body’s ability to make
blood clots, a process needed to stop bleeding.
This results in people bleeding longer

She added the objectives of the foundation
would be to create awareness, source services
and medications, and advocate for people with
haemophilia in Fiji.
Interim president Kunal Prasad, 23, who
suffers from severe haemophilia since he was
six months old is leading the foundation.
He said: “There is a general lack of awareness,
stigma, discrimination and major gaps in
medical services for people living with this
genetic condition.
“We are creating a data base on those

they get later diagnosed in life or don’t get

will be able to provide the medication to the
haemophilic and reach out and get registered.”
Mr Prasad reached out to LA Kelly
Communications (USA) president Laureen
Kelly, who is an expert in haemophilia education
through Facebook.
Ms Kelly said: “Our work in developing
countries is to start help organisation for
haemophilia and it has to be patient led since the

“We are here to donate medicine to Kunal,
help start an organisation and train the doctors
on how to use the donated medication.”

ndia had an intense start of the year in its
foreign policy area with several multilateral
engagements lined up simultaneously.
Amongst several key engagements, was
the third edition of the Raisina Dialogue –
India’s leading forum on geopolitics and geo-
economics – held in New Delhi from January
16-18.
The fact that this key conference had failed
to create a buzz or gain enough attention in
this part of the world, for the third consecutive
edition, only suggests the array of challenges
that India faces.
One such challenge is of getting an in-
commensurate representation in the global
media, in comparison to what its main strategic
rival China, often manages to get almost
effortlessly. 17
To make a case, a recent and seemingly
routine editorial-piece, published in Beijing's
state news agency Xinhua on January 27,
prompted NZ Herald to offer top headline
space saying China tells world: It's us or the
United States referring to China's message for
"openness" and "globalisation."
Indeed, the timing of the editorial piece was
apt as world leaders had gathered in the Swiss
town of Davos for the Global Economic Forum;
however, Chinese President Xi Jinping was not
attending that Forum, to say the least.
In contrast, India's Prime Minister Narendra
Modi had delivered a keynote address at
the opening plenary session of the same
forum, delivering a similar kind of message
of "openness" and "for globalisation," more
deftly and directly to the CEOs of top global
companies at Davos.
The conference also witnessed a thumbs-
up from the International Monetary Fund
Prime Minster Narendra Modi with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu
(IMF) for India's economic growth rate, which
reaffirmed that India's economy is set to regain
the tag of being the fastest growing economy of Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of future.
