PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED: We pray for our loved ones who have died recently,
especially M. Antoinette Baxter.

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-IN: “Let us raise up in prayer those who seek God’s
healing love, those at the hospital, hospice and at home”. We pray especially for Kay Kasaboski,
Gladys McNulty and Frank Walker. May your struggle be consoled by Christ’s love“.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
As we begin a new fall season we seek God’s blessing on families, school children and teachers.
Entering into the newness of the school year may God fulfill hopes and bring safety to the journey.
We here at St. Francis Xavier Parish now embark on the journey with you. In a few weeks, we will
begin our “On Our Way with Jesus” program of Sacramental Preparation. As well, Bishop Mulhall
will be with us to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation in November.
Consequently, our preparation for the sacrament will soon begin. May this be a re-awakening of
our Baptismal commitment to build the faith experience of our young people.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY: we will soon be starting our regular Sunday morning children’s program.
Thank you to the young parents who will facilitate the program this year. Your efforts are
appreciated by all who participate.
A special and much needed word of appreciation to Jane Freemark and her daughters, Lily
and Abbey, who have so generously co-ordinated and facilitated this ministry for many years
now. Your commitment has been our blessing. As a new group shows leadership this year we
are grateful for efforts in the past.
We welcome Laura Valliquette as our new co-ordinator of this ministry.

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR VICTIMS OF THE FLOOD IN PAKISTAN

A collection for this cause will be taken up, this weekend September 11-12.
The funds will be allocated to Development and Peace which, in turn, is collaborating directly with Caritas
Pakistan, the local Catholic Agency for relief and assistance which is also a member of Caritas International,
the Church’s global humanitarian aid network.

BISHOP’S COLLECTION FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CANADIAN CHURCH:

The annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held in most parishes in Canada
next weekend. The monies raised will be sent to our diocese, which will use these revenues to help pay
its annual contribution to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). Through the
work of the Bishops of Canada who are its members, the Conference is involved in national and
international areas of pastoral activity, including social justice, ecumenical and interfaith relations,
collaboration with Aborignal Peoples, life and family issues, liturgy, catechesis, doctrine and relations
with Catholic associations and movements. It also provides the Bishops a forum to share their
experiences and insights on the life of the Church and major events that shape our society.
The offices of the CCCB are located at 2500 Don Reid Drive, in Ottawa, where a staff of approxi-
mately 40 works in different services, supporting the pastoral work of the Bishops nationally and
internationally.
E XPLORING OUR CATHOLIC FAITH: Interest in exploring our Catholic Faith has been expressed by a cou- co u-
ple of people. The Rite of Christian Initiation is a process of preparing people for such a journey. Some
people, however, are interested in faith exploration and are not totally unaware of our traditions.
Con
Consequently, we need to adapt a program in an appropriate way. We would, at this time, invite anyone
who is interested in such an exploration to contact the parish office now. We will prepare a process mindful
of where the participants are at in their faith
faith journey.
