Pre-reading activity
T has three slips of paper with questions on them, she asks three students to take one
each and read the question for
1- How many hours sleep do you get every day?
2- Is it convenient to study at night? Why?
3- What can you do if you suffer from sleeping problems? Do you have any homemade
recipe to prevent them?
T asks the class what is the topic they are going to deal with during the class. Sts answer
SLEEPING. T writes the word on the board and asks students to list what they know
about the topic. As students come up with different words related to “sleeping”, the
teacher explains any doubts and adds some new key vocabulary taken from the text.
Through this activity the T promotes getting the meaning of new words in context.

Once the list of words is ready, T asks the students to use some of the vocabulary they
came up with in sentences.
While-reading activity
T distributes the reading passage. T calls out individual students to read the paragraphs.
Once each paragraph is finished, T asks individual students to get the main ideas of the
paragraphs. As soon as they have finished sharing their ideas, T asks the class if there
are new words for them. T helps the class by providing examples using the new
vocabulary. The purpose of these activities are:
Reading aloud: Individual learner: to get further practice in reading aloud to
increase self-confidence.
Whole class: To improve listening skills as well as to foster students’ attention
spam.
Vocabulary: To promote getting the meaning of new words in context.
The T asks the class to match some words from the text with their synonyms.
By doing this, students get familiar with new vocabulary.

Then the T asks the class to match the halves of sentences to make full meaningful
sentences.
By doing this, students become aware of writing meaningful sentences.
Phrase matching

After checking the previous exercise with the whole class, the T gives a task for
homework. She asks the class to go back to the text and read the paragraph ‘Important
for children’. T asks the class to bring the main ideas they can get from the paragraph.
That activity will be checked next class. Then, the teacher asks the following
comprehension questions to individual students.
This exercise promotes students’ fluency and speaking skills. At the same time, the T can
figure out what the students got from the reading.
