Take it (Na’) Banana (hash’kaan)

Give to me (hah) Book (naaltsoos)

Yellow (litso)

Red (liichii)

Materials/Props Needed: (What pictures AND realia items do you need to teach each
word and command?)

Flashcards with the command words written on them; Eat, take it, Give to me

Use of the props; apple, banana, and book

Flashcards with the colors on them; red, yellow, blue

Anticipatory Set: (What will you do to get them excited about the activity? Will you
sing or use a puppet or show pictures or show objects?)

- I will model the different props we will be learning about and show the different
colors (flashcards)
Direct Instruction/Modeling/Demonstration:

- I will start by holding up the flashcard with the color ‘red’ written and colored on
it
o Repeat the word for 3-4 times for repetition
- After a few times, I will hold up the apple and repeat for an additional 3-4 times
- I will start putting the two words together
o Red + Apple = Red Apple
o Repeat for 3-4 times
- After repeating “red apple”, I will slowly start adding the command “eat”
o Again, repeat 3-4 times while gesturing “eat”
- I will start putting the three words together
o Eat + Red + Apple = Eat the red apple
- Repeat steps 1-5 with the different vocabulary (yellow, banana, blue, book) and
the different commands (eat, take it, give to me)

Checking for Understanding:

- Students are following and making the same gesture I do as I say the word
- Students are invited to speak and pronounce the words along with me, but they
are not required to

Extra practice and Assessment:

- We will play a mini matching activity where all the props and flashcards are laid
out in front of everyone. As I say the word, the students will point to which prop
or color was just said.
o For instance, if I said, “Apple”, the students will point to the apple.
o If I said, “Yellow”, the students will point to the yellow flashcard.

Closure:

- To review, I will say each vocabulary word and have the students point to it or
demonstrate the given command without any assistance. Students are invited to
speak the target language, but aren’t required
