Promote social values, such as friendship and respect and help your students to
develop a range of reading skills through this eight-level reading scheme. Thanks
to the cross-curricular content at higher levels, these Readers can easily be
combined with other school subjects. The series is complemented by a four-level
phonics scheme called Macmillan Explorers Phonics.
primary
Teach your students how to blend sounds, to read words and segment the
sounds in the words in order to spell them accurately. The phonics focus is set
within the context of a story to ensure that reading for meaning is retained.
Use these Readers alongside any primary course. Macmillan Explorers Phonics
complements the first four levels of the Macmillan English Explorers.

“One of the challenges of teaching teenagers is to
keep them interested; it’s often difficult to find age-
appropriate material for the teenage students.
Beyond is age-appropriate with lots of topics
which appeal to teenagers’ different experiences.
Teenagers are more engaged, the lessons are more
interactive, students seem more confident with
communicating in the lessons.
I would recommend Beyond as it’s very easy to
use, it encourages more discussions and the topics
reflect the needs and the interests of the students.”

“I have used IELTS Foundation for nearly 3 years. I
love it! I think the best thing about this book is that it
introduces the IELTS test gradually, with lots of student-
support along the way. The topics covered in the book
prepare students well for the IELTS test. There are plenty
of activities that help enhance students’ thinking skills,
such as evaluating and critical thinking. The design of the
book, including pictures, graphs and other illustrations
is really attractive and colourful, making it a lot more
interesting. This book is really useful for anyone aiming
to sit the IELTS soon, especially for first-time test takers.
I think my favourite unit is unit 3, simply because my
students have said to me “You are out of this world,
teacher!”

“Essential Reading has an excellent variety of
exercises that help students really understand
the reading text and learn different ways
of saying key words or common phrases.
These exercises are what distinguish this
course from other more traditional reading
comprehension books: rather than ‘testing’
students’ factual knowledge, it develops their
reading skills and encourages them to notice
situational meaning and leads them to pick up
on everyday language.”
