Research Project Folio Checklist

Your Folio should be a record of all of the planning and development of your research
throughout the year. The following is a list of components that could be in the Folio.
Remember, if you are moderated, the SACE Board will want to see a 10 page sample of your
work that demonstrates how you have met the 6 performance standards of the Folio.
Proposal – This is a compulsory 500 word component that should have been completed in
term 1. It will definitely be included in your 10 page moderation package.
Mind maps/Topic question brainstorming – This is a compulsory component that should
have been completed at the beginning of the project. The most relevant mind map or
brainstorming evidence to your topic will be included in your 10 page moderation package.
Timeline – If you created a timeline early in the year setting out dates to complete different
components of the project, it can be included in the 10 page moderation package to show
evidence of your planning.
Journal Entries – There should be multiple journal entries in your Folio that reflect on your
progress. They should be at least a paragraph long per entry, and should be dated for
different periods of the school year. A journal is simply a record of your thoughts, and you
may choose to discuss matters such as what you have completed, what you plan to do next,
what you have learnt about your topic, what research skills you have developed, what
challenges and opportunities you have been dealing with, how your chosen capability has
been developing, and general feelings and thoughts about the Research Project. 1-2 pages
of journal entries could be included in the 10 page moderation package.
Source analysis – Multiple pages of detailed analysis of different sources, such as websites,
books, articles, videos etc. This can be done by using the templates on R Drive, with sticky
notes or hand written notes on the source, or in a separate Word document. 3–5 good
quality pages of source analysis could be included in the 10 page moderation package.
Surveys – If you conducted a survey, you should have completed copies in your Folio, as well
as at least half a page to 1 page of analysis, and possibly graphs or tables displaying the
data.
Interview transcript – If you conducted an interview, you should have a complete transcript
of questions and answers in your Folio, as well as at least half a page to 1 page of analysis.
Glossary – A list of common, difficult words related to your topic that you have come across
in your research, as well as their meanings (like a mini dictionary).
Annotated Bibliography – A list of all sources used, with a brief description of the value and
limitations of each source towards your project.
Capability reflection – This is a compulsory half page (at least) reflecting on your chosen
capability and how you have developed it over the course of the Research Project.
Any other evidence of planning and development of your Research Project.
