Artifact Reflection

The grade level we chose to be appropriate for our lesson idea was fourth grade. The

chosen ISTE standard we decided that would be appropriate for this lesson was number 2,

communication and collaboration. This standard describes students using technology and their

environment to communicate and work with others. Because our lesson is a weather news

report, this ISTE standard suits the lesson for the students because of the collaboration and

communication of a team. The chosen PA standard for this lesson was standard 3.3.4.A5. This

standard is for fourth grade students. This standard looks for students to be able to describe

basic weather elements.

I would use a green screen like this in my classroom as an example for my students. It is

always very crucial to provide a model for students to guide off and be aware of the

expectations of the assignment. This green screen video is a weather news report for a

thunderstorm. To elaborate on this idea and continue it in the classroom, I would assign

students into teams to design a weather news report for another type of weather condition. I

would also go further in depth by students taking on roles of a team to make it a reality

experience. By doing this, it would be incorporating critical thinking, collaboration,

communication, and creativity.

I could also see myself using the green screen method in my future classroom for a

variety of lessons. I think it would be a great device to integrate into the third grade when

children begin to study clouds, because as our green screen video showed, clouds are a huge

part of the weather and how precipitation pertains to rain fall which begins from the cloud

formations. I would use this either as a project, having a group on children to record a few
different videos each on different topics that all connect. I could also see using this as part of a

center during our center times, because it is a great way to integrate technology and to allow the

children to face problem solving skills. It took us a little while to figure out how to properly use

the app and the backdrop, so this is a great way to integrate kids into self problem solving

methods, and also a great way for them to be able to ask their peers for help, or help peers who

are struggling with the project/center.

I think this lesson falls under the M in the SAMR model. This is for the modification of the

tech. The students will be completing the same task, but modified to meet the requirements of

another type of weather condition.
