Cybercultural Investigation of MiddleClassFancy

1. Language and customs used revolve around mostly middle class lifestyles and
people who fit into that category. The use of certain products and brands such as
“TJ Maxx” and “Chille’s” are used constantly to reinforce the “middle class
fancy.” (Change in abbreviations to explain or have a conversation) It mostly
shows white middle class problems and does not generally have any people of
color. This depicts the white people as awkward.
2. The way participants, like college students, or other middle class people interact
with this meme is because the content is relatable, it is easy to resonate with the
topics and the content. In the terms ideology of individuality, it goes to show that
it’s actually a culture which is relatable to many of the content viewers which is
why the account has gained such a huge following; because it’s relatable.
3. The cyberculture has an impact through connecting a large group of people who
share a commonality and this can have an impact on connecting people of
different identities (race, gender, sexuality, class). Along with that the
cyberculture has an impact through taking typical problems and making a joke out
of them. This is to show how the cultural concerns of most are ones that shift to
things that are unimportant and how we often form social groups that shelter us
from difference in both reality and online. Another impact is its impact on races
representation in the cybercultural world and it states how information is based on
values, beliefs and needs by the group. When looking at this cyberculture, one of
the focuses is the idea of technocapitalism where through the main idea there also
is the constant branding and marketing of services and products. This then goes
with the idea of there being a concerns around this culture and its attachment to
materialism.
4. This cyberculture matters to our worldview because it is an information society
where one can share their ideologies about different ideas, such as what a specific
groups identity looks like. The cyberculture also allows for people to have agency
where they can have an effect to create change, in this case it is trying to show
how we often don’t look outward at societal problems. It also is important though
since it is based on a series of social processes and interactions where people can
find commonality or difference among themselves.
