Declaration of Independence

The americans have not lived up to the ideals in the Declaration of

Independence. The five ideals are Rights, Opportunity, Liberty, Equality and

Democracy. With the Rights and Equality ideal, I would disagree that it has lived up to

the calculation because there are african americans, and latin americans getting

discriminated by the white americans. And they don't have the same equality as the

white americans have. Opportunity, it lies at the heart of the “American Dream”, which I

kinda agree with this ideal because some pedestrians already have that “American

Dream” and there are other pedestrians still trying to achieve that “American Dream”.

On the last ideal Democracy, I strongly agree that it is made by the power of the

pedestrians.

The document of Declaration has its own roles with respect and a better

understanding. The Civil Rights Movement was in the years of 1954 through 1968. Their

goal was to end racial discrimination to the african americans. Martin Luther King Jr was

jailed in Birmingham for non-violent protest. In the present year there are african

americans getting killed by the police officers. They didn't have the same equalities as

the white americans do. On the other hand Opportunity was where it led to the

American Dream. An economic collapse happened in the 1930s. The women and the

children were distressed by the Great Depression. The woman's wanted a better life

and more great opportunity.

The Vietnam war lasted for a good while. It divided the nation more than any war

since the civil war. The ideal with rights was the basic conditions guaranteed to each

person. I believe the Rights ideal kinda lived up to the expectation. The Americans

wanted rights and justice for the soldiers that died during the vietnam war. They also

believed that the US had to block spread of communism in South Vietnam. Others

believed the U.S was propping up an undemocratic government to protect its own

power and rep. During the Sixties, the american youth had a very unique free spirited

attitude. The youth's saw and experienced a bunch of stuff. They saw the assassination

of the US president John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King. Also they went through the

Civil Rights protest. Youths wanted liberty in an expressive way. They would express

their disappointment with music, clothes and food. Liberty is the freedom to act without

being limited by not using unnecessary force.

Democracy is a form of Government that places power in the hands of the

people. I think would agree that it relies on the hands of the people. There’s two type of

democracies: direct and representative. With direct, every citizen needs to vote on an

important decision. And representative is where people elect representatives to run the

government.

In conclusion, I only see that a couple of the ideals have lived up to the

expectations. I would hope that equality would change to a better understanding and

that everyone has the same equal rights. But all of the ideals should have a better

understanding and respect for all the people.
