I have litigated cases in the following areas: civil, domestic relations, criminal, administrative, federal, and arbitration hearings. Why do you want to be a Cook County judge?
I believe I can bring penetrating solutions to the lives of those who may stand before me. Being a Judge would allow me to continue to serve the public as a civil servant while providing the best legal interpretation of law and application of law to each unique matter that may come before the court. It is beyond a desire of all the benefits that come with being an elected Circuit Court Judge. It is to serve in a capacity that most benefits the government we have elected to protect the rights of the individual while holding those responsible for their individual actions.
What are the most pressing issues facing the justice system and why?
Our justice system is the best in the world. With every system comes a host of problems. The biggest problem the system faces is the rate of recidivism. The justice system was designed to correct behavior; however, persons appearing in our system continue to do so in a cyclical manner-arrest, sentence, release, and repeat. An intelligent Judge will work with the prosecutor, defense, victims, witnesses, police, and other agencies to enhance and provide a method to truly correct behavior and rehabilitate those who enter the justice system.
How will your experiences help you serve as a good judge?
I served with the United States Marine Corps. From this great branch of the military, I learned how to be an excellent leader with great determination, and provide guidance to subordinates to allow them growth and contribution to the organization as a whole. As a Deputy Sheriff, I observed Judges, lawyers, prosecutors, victims, witnesses, and prisoners and their individual roles within the justice system. I was also blessed with the opportunity to view the collective roles as they interacted. As a Police Officer, I experienced the justice system from the streets-arresting suspects, comforting victims, collecting evidence, and testifying in court. As an attorney, I applied the law and interpreted it to a select set of facts in a way most beneficial to my clients. These experiences give me the most unique vantage point of the justice system-from the streets to the court. I have a set of characteristics that would distinguish me from being a good Judge to being an excellent one: impartiality, patience, understanding, intelligence, common sense, and an ability to apply the Spirit and the Letter of the law.
What do you wish voters knew about you?
I am an American Patriot, having a great love of country. I have dedicated a great portion of my professional life to public service. I served honorably with the United States Marine Corps, served as a Police Officer, and practiced as an attorney. I have earned the trust of State agencies to serve and protect. I would be honored to earn the trust of the voters of this subcircuit and continue to provide outstanding public service.
