Rev (4) ~March 2007 ipe Fitters Minimum 4 — inch scheduled 80 pipe at ~ 12 inches long Fitters are to bevel the pipe 2” from the end at 30° with torch in accordance with the sketch below. After the cut is made, place the piece of pipe in a bucket full of water to cool. Once cooled, the fitters are to take the square end of the pipe and make the necessary cuts in order to saddle the pipe onto the template pipe (a 12” long piece of pipe used for all pipe fitter tests) to form 90° in accordance with the sketch on the next page. 30° bevel aaa —| a Beveled End Saddle This End / Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. Rev (4)— March 2007 1* Class - Continuation (Washing Required for Repair, Optional for New Construction) ‘The instructor should take a scrap piece of pipe that is already welded to a plate or another piece of pipe and have the fitter “wash” the welds with a torch, and let them know which piece of metal is the critical structure. If no welded scrap is available, have the fitter take a scrap piece of pipe and place the square end on a piece of scrap plate while instructing the fitter to lay down three (3) tack welds. ‘Then have the fitter “wash’" the tack welds with a torch, Performance 1.)
