An Impact Change
Lucretia was born a beautiful young woman. When she was young she attended a
coeducational Quaker school. Later in her life, she married her husband, James Garfield, in 1858.
She worked with him in the abolitionist movement. They had 5 children together. Her husband
became the 20th president of the United States and was sadly assassinated by Charles Guto.
During her time alive she got malaria and was badly ill. She was a woman with many great ideas,
determination and saw things in a way to change the world. Although, she refused to buy
products that were made by slave labor. She spent most of her life in Nantucket, Massachusetts
which concluded of her becoming the first president of the Equal Rights Association in 1866.
They are a group committed to African American and Woman Suffrage.

She realized she needed to work for the Women's rights when she was prevented from
participating in the world Anti-slavery Convention. At the time, this was held in London. So in
order to help, she helped Elizabeth Stanton organize the convention at Seneca Falls in 1848. This
led her to speaking on topics of social reform such as abolition, women's rights, temperance, and
world peace. Her actions help our world today because with her help, women are allowed to do
many things, such as vote. She made a big impact in our world by letting us woman have the
rights we deserve. Lucretia was not only a wife she was a mom and a great person with a good
heart. She had so much determination on doing what she can in society. She helped us all in a
way that she found possible. For this, she has many admirers.

“We need not however admit inferiority, even tho’ we may not be able to prove equality”
Inferiority means the condition of being lower in status or quality than another. What I think
Lucretia was trying to say in this quote was that although they did not have much rights at that
time, they did everything that was possible to achieve their goals. She said that they shouldn't
admit to inferiority even though they could not yet achieve their rights. This is just one of the
reasons why they went for the women's rights movement. Lucretia was being an inspirational
speaker to all her fellow followers. She meant well for all, she said this to prove to everyone that
they shouldn't be ashamed of their part in society. She was trying to say that everyone should
stand up for what they believe in. She always tried to be the bigger person and do what she
thought and knew was right. With what she said, he helped others realize the things in life. This
quote doesn't only mean that everyone shall be themselves and not ashamed of themselves but to
stand up for what they believe is true. She always knew the right things to say.
