We decided to talk about only 6 of the Britains greatest bands of all times, but there are many of

them we agreed to make our honorable mentions: The Hollies, The Kinks, The Animals, The Who,
Deep Purple, The Clash, Radiohead, The Police and many others.

The Beatles

Unlike todays artists who come and go and become forgotten as soon as someone new appears, The
Beatles held number one positions for 10 years straight and are relevant even today. The Beatles
were an extraordinary rock band from Liverpool England that wrote and performed extremely
popular music from 1960 to 1970 and they still influence musicians and culture today. They sold
more records worldwide than any other band. But why were they so successful and influential?
Because of their talent, practice, personalities, innovation and timing. When Lennon and McCartney
first started playing with... the two singer-songwriter talents already showed. Several years of playing
in clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg improved their skills. They started experimenting and their music
influenced by skiffle and rock and roll evolved into a unique, distinguishable beat. That’s how they
got their name. By the time the Beatles recorded their first single, Pete best was replaced by Ringo
Starr. The post war generations wanted to rebel against their parents authorative culture, The
Beatles were their untraditional aspiration and style and exactly what the youth had been looking
for. Youth culture was born. With little competition from other bands the fanbase and popularity
grew into the famous beatle mania. Via the new mass media the Beatles were suddenly everywhere
and helmed the british invasion to the united states followed by the other british bands like the
Rolling Stones. After the US success, Beatles became globally popular. The Fab Four continued
topping charts for the next 10 years by experimenting with different styles solo writing recording and
their distinguishable style. Also by moving from sweet pop to avantgarde rock they kept reinventing
themselves.

The Beatles had dozen number one hits like Hey Jude, Hard days night, Yesterday and many others-
They recorded 12 albums including Let it be and Abbey Road, with Abbey Road album having one of
the most iconic album covers. The band made five feature films, received ten grammys and even an
oscar. But in 1970 the beatles broke up and all four members pursued their individual carriers often
collaborating with each other. The Beatles changed the music industry forever by writing their own
music and lyrics, recording albums with multiple singles and by introducing music videos and playing
large scale concerts. Last but not least, they didnt just provide entertainment, they brought a
revolution.

The first few years of their mainstream popularity their music was pretty simple, catchy pop music,
their music then gradually became more and more complex and by the time Sgt Pepper was
released, their style was completely different. The Beatles decided to stop touring because their
music became increasingly complex to perform live. Right before the split, they gave a surprise
rooftop performance and its probably the most famous concerts ever.

In comparison to other Beatles' albums, 'Magical Mystery Tour' was not especially good received. But
several of its songs – "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Penny Lane" and "All You Need Is Love," rank
among the group's all-time best.

Interesting fact about The Beatles that sparked controversy and helped them stay on the top charts
for so long is the Paul is dead conspiracy theory. Many fans believe that the real Paul McCartney died
in 1966 and that the imposter took his place. The Beatles took advantage of that and incorporated
what seemed to be clues in their album covers and songs and kept the rumours going. Paul is dead is
still one of the most discussed conspiracy theories ever.
Queen

Queen's roots go back to 1967, when guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor joined
singer Tim Staffell in a group called Smile. Staffell soon left to go solo, and the remaining two
members teamed up with Freddie Mercury and later bassist John Deacon. They played very
few gigs at the start, avoiding the club circuit and rehearsing for two years while they all
remained in college. They began touring in 1973, when their debut album was released. After
a second LP, the band made its U.S. tour debut.

Queen's sound combined showy glam rock, heavy metal, and intricate vocal harmonies
produced by multi-tracking Mercury's voice. Queen's third LP, 1974's Sheer Heart Attack,
featured "Killer Queen," its first U.S. Top Twenty hit. The LP also became its first U.S. gold.

Heavy-metal fans loved Queen, and the band's audience grew with its breakthrough LP,
1975's A Night at the Opera. It contained the six-minute masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody,"
Queen had eight gold and six platinum records. Their number one hits include "Killer Queen",
"Bohemian Rhapsody", "You're My Best Friend", "Somebody to Love", "We Are the
Champions", "We Will Rock You", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites the
Dust", "Under Pressure“ and "Radio Ga-Ga".

At first their hits were very much alike hard rock, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s the
group began to change their style. In 1980 they released The Game which featured two big
hits in in a bit softer style "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and the disco-style "Another One
Bites the dust.

Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Compilations, DVDs and
archival live recordings continued to emerge throughout the new millennium.

This is one of the most famous Queen appearances at Live Aid Campaign at Wembley
Stadium, London.

In about a second you should see a crowd of estimated 250 thousand people at Queens
concert in Rio, Brasil.
