Chapter II

Review of Related Literature

Business ethics can thus be understood as the study of the ethical dimensions of

productive organization and for also to commercial activities. And questions in business

ethics are important and relevant to everyone. For which this can affect the cycle of a

business. “Curiosity and Needs: Exploration on Integrating Proper Ethical Principles in

Becoming a Successful Businessman Through The Corporate World Of Innovation”

Ethics are thought of by many people as something that is related to the private

side of life and not to the business side. In many businesses, having ethics is frowned upon

or thought of as a negative subject. This is because business is usually about doing what’s

best for number one, not about what’s really the right thing to do. (Myron Curry- “Ethics

in the Workplace”)

In relation to the literature gathered, it stated that proper ethics are commonly

ignored in the corporate world. That business put rely on gaining income and more focusing

into competitive marketing rather than ensuring the ethical behaviors that should be taken

action by the people who works around the business. Thereafter, concluded that business

ethics should then be focused in the workplace considering that this could improve the

relationship between the owners to employees and employees to co-employees as well as

to the customers in rendering services to them.

A strong ethical culture within your business is important in safeguarding your

assets. Employees who abide by your workplace ethics would be able to protect and respect

your business’ assets. Workers can only respect company property when you treat them

with respect and dignity, which makes them feel proud to be working for your business.

(Alejandro Russell, 2015)

That in a manner of speaking, businesses should integrate the strong proper ethics

in the workplace to the employees that the growth of the developmental status of the

business would depend on the behavioral aspects of people involved to it. By giving respect

and treating the employees right would result into protecting the business and engaging the

employees to be more passionate to their jobs.

A company’s ethics helps to shape the behavior of its employees. When a

company values integrity, fairness and honesty, every aspect of the business often

improves. Ethics guide how people conduct themselves in every aspect of their lives,

including the workplace. Honest, hardworking employees increase overall morale,

improve a company’s reputation and help ensure a business’ long-term success. (Sam

Amico- “Workplace Ethics and Behavior”)

That having weak points on the ethical principles in connection to the employees

will lead to a conflict towards protecting the assets of the business. That proper ethics

conducted in a business is one major factor to improve the behavior of the employees as

well as the company or the business to have a good reputation. That further investigation

and observation is a must in accordance to business ethics.

In business ethics, we can make analogous distinctions. A company activity

system can be considered morally justifiable if the company’s activities are substantively

right, procedurally fair and bring justice to the company’s ecosystem. (Tencati, et.al.,2012,

p. 4)

It stated that ethical principles in business is essential to the workplace that if only

proper ethics are showed, implemented and applied by all. Thereafter, it could bring forth

good morale to the behavior of the people around it following proper procedures in a fair

manner of interaction.

Many ethical conflicts develop from conflicts between the differing interests of

company owners and their workers, customers, and surrounding community. Managers

must balance the ideal against the practical- the need to produce a reasonable profit for

the company’s shareholders with honesty in business practices, safety in the workplace,

and larger environmental and social issues. (Clinard, et.al., 1980)

To sum up, there are many conflicts arousing from the lack of good morale in the

business. Ethical questions may range from practical, narrowly defined issues, such as a

company’s obligation to be honest with its customers, to broader social and philosophical

questions, such as a company’s responsibility to preserve the environment and protect

employee rights. A well- define conclusion that the need of ethical consideration to the

workplace is a must.
