Recycle Costume Essay (ver.1)
In an occasion of Vichakarn Day at MUIDS on the twenty-ty first of February two thousand and
eighteen, the eleventh graders from 1107 were assigned by our Thai department teacher to participate in
the Thai recycled outfit fabrication contest made from used materials. After being assigned, our class

members had discussed about each one’s roles in the process of drafting and designing the outfit based on
the following reference ideas:
Our recycled costume has three main colors and representations, blue means sky and water, green
means forest while pink represents love. The main purpose of choosing these colors is to make our
costume look colorful because they make a perfect color combination. This makes the costume’s pattern
not look too colorful because it has square and cross striped. The inspiration of the costume comes from a
shirt brand named Balenciaga whose clothing are designed to for both men and women. Moreover, the
whole class agreed that the design should have a lot of themes and decided to make a Thai-Western-style
costume. The higher part of the costume will be undershirt type, Tank Top, square striped made from jean
and is covered by long sleeves overcoat sewed from two shirts. The cloth’s buttons that are sewed with
those shirts are made from bottle’s caps. The lower part will be a square striped skirt longer than the knees
sewed with the higher part making the costume looks like a costume from a cartoon called One Piece. The
most prominent point of this costume is the long back of the coat will be longer than the front so it will be
like a costume of a Thai dancing clothes. When looking at the overall picture, you will see that the dress
will be Western style, but Thai style is still remained. From the design and concept of the series, two types
of sewing materials are needed: old clothes, waste rags and bottle caps by using a sewing machine to sew
the costume to be as neat as possible.
To sum up, Thai recycled outfit of the eleventh graders from 1107 is going to be Thai-western
applied in blue, green, and pink. Prints on the outfit include the grid pattern, stripes, and cross pattern. The
dress is categorized as an inner outfit covered by cape, skirt, and a long shawl at the back similar to
“Sabai”. The outfit is designed to be suitable both for men and women. The materials include the used
clothes, rags, and bottle lids. From now on, we will proceed with the sewing with all our efforts and to the
best of our abilities in order for the fabrication of the outfit to be accomplished as planned.

Recycle Costume Essay (ver.2)

On the occasion of the upcoming Vichakarn Day, held on the 21st of February, 2018 at Mahidol
University International Demonstration School, grade 1107 was handed a letter from the Thai Language
and Culture department to participate in “The First Official MUIDS Thai Traditional Recycled Costume
Competition.” The main concept of this program is for students to demonstrate their skills of design, style,
and creativity by originating a costume from the recycled materials. After we were given this opportunity
to join into the competition, our class members have discussed and agreed to come up with an idea to start
brainstorming and conceptualizing the Thai costume. We all agreed to start sketching and considering our
conceptions.
The theme colors we strongly approach to include are turquoise Blue, Green, and Pink. The color
blue represents the sky and the sea. Green symbolizing forests, trees, and nature. And the last color, pink
exemplifies the love, our love to our beloved instution. The crucial reasons behind why we decided to use
these three main colors are to create a colorful image of the attire. The three colors are the colors that
contrasts perfectly and not too bright and gaudy. The lines and patterns that our costume would consists of
includes: stripes, grid patterns, and cross patterns. Considering these cloth-line we have chosen, we
believe it will surely grab the attention of the audience as well as to create diversities to the attire. The
concepts we include are adapted from the well-known hi-end brand, “Balenciaga,” that designs clothes for
all groups of people including children, teenagers, and adults, both women and men. It was known for its
name to boost consumers’ confidence and when they wore the brand’s outfit
Furthermore, our class members have acknowledged that this costume should encompasses a range
of details from Western cultures and Thai’s cultures as well. The upper part of the costume would be a
grid lined-tank top made from old and used jean covered with long sleeves created from combining two
kinds of cloth, which are Satin and any unused piece of fabric. The gimmicks of the button we brought
into use for combining the two pieces fabrics together are recycled water-bottle caps. The lower parts that
is the pant of the costume are designed to be a little bit lengthy proximal to the knee. The highlights of this
one-piece costume are the tails of the tank top that will be connected with the shawl later. In the overall
posterior appearance, the back hollow to hem of the top would be longer than the back to reflect our
wonderful Thai traditional dance costume (ชกุดรจาไทย)
Bringing up rear, the costume we, 1107 created appeared to be a fusion of Western cultures and still
keeping in close inspirations from Thai traditional attire. If you widen your perspective and carefully
considering at our piece of garment, you will surely understand the purposes of each details we 1107 have
approaching to present it to you.
In conclusion, the recycled costume of Grade 1107 would be consisting of Green, turquoise blue,
and pink. It would also include the patterns of plaids, stripped, and crosses. The design will maintain the
Thai traditional style, yet, adapting the modern style from the Western cultures. The materials that will be

used would be all reused and recycled. Our class is completely looking forward to work together and
spend time wisely. This project can be related to articulate communicators who can: Listen, read, write,
and speak for different purposes and use different methods to communicate. Articulate concepts they
understand and how they understand them to different social groups. And uses technology and media to
clarify, explain, and state their ideas
