rheumatic diseases, conditions that affect the joints, muscles and bones.
15 | P a g e
Minimally invasive surgery can be used for diagnostic purposes and
laparoscopic techniques are used in a wide range of surgeries and procedures.
2. Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery combines the skills of our surgeons with the accuracy
of the da Vinci® Surgical System to give patients a better clinical outcome. By
overcoming the challenges of traditional open surgery, the da Vinci® Surgical
System allows our surgeons greater accuracy, dexterity and control, needing
only 1 – 2cm cuts. Robotic surgery can be used for most conditions that are
currently treated using laparoscopic surgeries and is ideal for:
16 | P a g e
e. Thyroid removal
f. Surgical oncology for the removal of cancer tissue from sensitive parts of
an organ or a tissue
3. Awake craniotomy
It is important that you are conscious for the entire procedure so that
your surgeon can monitor vital functions during the operation. Although you
will be awake, you will not feel any discomfort because a local anesthetic will
be applied to fully numb the area.
Your surgeon will accurately map the critical regions of your brain to
minimize the risk of damaging these important areas. Our surgical team will
then remove a part of your skull to access the brain. During this stage of the
17 | P a g e
procedure, you may be guided through a series of instructions or asked to
respond to questions.
Communication with your surgeon is crucial for the team to assess the
effectiveness of the surgery as it is progressing, and to ensure that important
functions are not compromised.
It uses laser to make the corneal cut which allows for greater control
over the shape and size of the cut. And it is capable of consistently producing
well-centered and optimally-sized openings of the capsule of the natural lens
to allow the removal of the cataract lens and replacement with an artificial
lens implant. With the assistance of the laser, less ultrasound energy is
required to break up the lens. It is also better able to more accurately position
the lens implant for potentially better visual outcome for the patient.
This cataract surgery technique using laser can be performed for most
patients who have pupils that dilate well. However, it may be indicated
especially for particularly complicated cases, like when the cataract is
advanced, when the cornea is weak or when the lens is unstable.

5. Carotid Ultrasound
If you have been diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure and have a
pre-existing condition that will cause you to reject a transplanted kidney or are
unable to find a live donor with a matching blood group, your surgeon may
suggest a complicated kidney transplant. While there is no age limit for this
transplant, you must be medically fit to undergo the operation.
19 | P a g e
7. Deep Brain Stimulating Surgery
a. Our team of expert surgeons will strategically implant the electrodes into the
identified areas of your brain through small burr holes made in your skull.
Local anesthesia will be applied to numb your scalp and protect you from
any discomfort. It is important for you to remain conscious during this
procedure to provide feedback, so that your surgeon knows that the correct
areas of your brain are being stimulated.
b. In the second procedure, your surgeon will place you under a general
anesthesia before carefully inserting a battery, called an impulse generator,
20 | P a g e
within your chest. This will enable you to regulate side effects and suppress
symptoms with the use of a wireless hand-held controller (in a manner
similar to a cardiac pacemaker). Battery implementation may be done
immediately after electrode implantation or at a later session at your request.
21 | P a g e
ENT specialist may advise you to take a CT scan to evaluate your condition
and decide whether you should undergo FESS.
9. Irregular Heart Rhythm Treatment
Catheter ablation is a non-surgical procedure where a thin catheter
with electrodes is carefully inserted into the blood vessels and directed into
the abnormal site of the heart that is causing the irregular beats. The exact site
is then accurately localized and radiofrequency energy will be delivered to
target, or ablate (remove), the affected area.
This technique uses a 3D mapping system that allows our specialists to
combine electrical information from inside your heart with the heart's
anatomy.
10. Kidney Sparing Surgery for Early Kidney Cancers
The most critical part of this surgery is the cutting away (excision) of
the tumor followed by the repair and reconstruction of the nephrons and
muscles that are affected by the removal process. Our experienced surgeons do
this quickly to prevent kidney damage from lack of oxygen and blood supply to
the kidney. While this is a challenge with conventional laparoscopic
nephrectomy and its straight laparoscopic instruments, the articulated Endo
22 | P a g e
Wrist instruments from the da Vinci® system enables your surgeon to complete
the complex procedure quickly and efficiently.
Your specialist will most likely recommend you for kidney sparing
surgery if you suffer from early kidney cancer.
23 | P a g e
13. Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)
The left ventricular assist device, or LVAD, is a device that takes over
the left heart ventricle’s pumping action. The thickest of all the heart’s
chambers, the left heart ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to tissues in the
body in order to maintain healthy blood circulation.
14. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology
(ART) which helps couples become pregnant by fusing the egg and sperm
together in an external laboratory setting, followed by selecting the highest
quality embryos and transferring them back into the mother’s uterus.
15. Reconstructive Surgery
24 | P a g e
16. Robotic Partial Knee Replacement
25 | P a g e
18. Robotic Thyroid Surgery
Robotic thyroid surgery, also known as robotic thyroidectomy, is a minimally
invasive procedure that involves removing a part or the entire thyroid gland
with the assistance of the da Vinci® Surgical System. Unlike conventional open
surgery which needs a larger cut in the neck to reach the thyroid gland, this
robotic procedure only involves making a small cut in the armpit instead.

CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSION
The conclusion of our paper is Mt. Elizabeth in Singapore has better facilities and
health services than RSCM in Indonesia, but the payment of Mt. Elizabeth in
Singapore is more expensive than RSCM in Indonesia. Therefore people with low
economy could not seek for treatment in Mt. Elizabeth Hospital.
