CHAPTER I
COMPANY DATA

1
A. Brief History / Background of the Company / Company Profile

The Batangas II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BATELEC II) is one of

the two (2) Electric Cooperatives that distribute electricity to Batangas

province with its principal office at Antipolo del Norte, LipaCity. It was

organized and was duly registered with the National Electrification

Administration (NEA) on August 12, 1977.

It had an initial capital of P28 million obtained as loan from NEA for purposes of providing electric

service to both urban and rural areas. NEA subsequently granted BATELEC II a provisional franchise in the

municipalities of San Juan, Taysan, Lobo, Rosario, Mabini/Tingloy, Bauan, San Pascual, Ibaan, Alitagtag,

Cuenca, San Jose and Batangas City duly represented by its Incorporators, Mr. Conrado S. Quijano, Mr.

Isidro P. Sulit Jr., Dr. Reynaldo S. Carandang, Mr. Sulficio F. Frago, Mr. Simeon C. Dolor, Mr. Antonio D.

Cruzat, Mrs. Lourdes C. Bulanhagui, Atty. Emilio P. Piñero, Dra. Maxima R. Recto, Mrs. Wilma S. Cuevas,

Atty. Simeon T. Agbing and Mr. Flaviano E. Villena, respectively.

BATELEC II started its operations on April 24, 1978 in the municipalities of Rosario, Cuenca, Alitagtag,

San Jose and San Juan after the right to operate had been bought by the Cooperative from the private

owners. BATELEC II then begun on its activities towards the attainment of the thrust of Rural Electrification,

that is the total electrification of its coverage area. The task force construction supported by NEA personnel

and assistance from different Electric Cooperatives paved the way to the electrification of Lobo on May 9,

1978 which is marked to be the Coop's first energization.

After two years of operation, finally, on May 28, 1980, the National Electrification Administration granted

BATELEC II a permanent franchise for a period of 50 years in the City of Batangas, and municipalities of

Mabini, Bauan, San Pascual, Ibaan, Rosario, San Juan, Taysan, Lobo and Tingloy. Although BATELEC II

2
has the right to operate on areas of Bauan, San Pascual, Ibaan and BatangasCity, these were energized by

privately - owned - operated electric system. On the same year, because of the extensive area coverage,

BATELEC III, another Electric Cooperative was organized to operate in the municipalities of Tanauan, Malvar,

Balete, Laurel, Talisay, Mataas na Kahoy, Padre Garcia and LipaCity. However, the Coop since its

organization and registration with NEA did not operate because it was placed under the administration and

operational control of BATELEC II. BATELEC III, had its own set of BOD but who were in-active until

BATELEC III was merged to BATELEC II:

NAME NATIONALITY ADDRESS

1. Mrs. Estelita C. Vergara Filipino Alitagtag, Batangas

2. Atty. Simon T. Agbing Filipino San Jose, Batangas

3. Maj. Eliseo L. Camaganan Filipino LipaCity, Batangas

4. Atty. Carlos B. Estole Filipino Padre Garcia, Bats.

5. Mr. Juanito Latayan Filipino Balete, Batangas

6. Mr. Rodelo L. Cosico Filipino Malvar, Batangas

7. Col. Isidro C. Villa Filipino Tanauan Batangas

8. Mr. Ruben V. Calinisan Sr. Filipino Laurel, Batangas

BATELEC III was officially merged with BATELEC II on 1989, thereby placing the entire coverage

area of BATELEC III under BATELEC II.

3
True to its commitment of providing electric service, far flung areas, mountainous terrain, lakes, rugged

roads and the like have not caused discouragement to BATELEC II from carrying out the Rural Electrification

Program.

Tingloy, MaricabanIsland was energized in 1982 using gasifier for power generation, which made use

of charcoal in its operation. In 1986, the gasifier was replaced by a gasoline engine since the past operations

proved that the use of charcoal was not feasible. After a couple of years, the gasoline engine was replaced

by a diesel engine.

A special project utilizing solar energy in producing electricity was piloted in Isla Verde. The Verde

Island Solar Power Association was organized through the assistance of NEA, which operates the same

manner as Barangay Power Association (BAPA)

To strengthen the member-consumers' individual involvement in the Cooperative's undertakings and

to enhance the spirit of Cooperativism among member-consumers, the Barangay Power Association was

launched.

Over the past years of its operations embracing the Government's Rural Electrification Program, 100%

of its municipalities and 100% of Barangays were energized. The total house connections increased to

288,337 in which 42,241 are from BAPA (as of September 2016) as compared to 23,605 of 1980. BATELEC

II has also organized 658 Barangay Power Associations, however the BOD and Management are now on

the intensive analysis of taking over some of the feasible BAPA considering that they are cognizant on the

admirable sacrifices of BAPA officers in managing their associations.

The coop's operation is not focused solely on technical improvement. Its relationship with the member-

consumers is likewise one of its primary concerns. Various projects and programs were launched and

supported by the Coop namely: Outreach Program for victims of calamities; Housewiring Loan Program to

4
aid financially handicapped consumers who want to avail of electric service; Coops Electrification Program

beneficiaries of which are the Bigain San Jose, Cuenca and Taysan School; Sponsored Vegetable Rising

Project in schools within its coverage area and Rural Barangay Food Production Program (RBFPP) at Brgy.

Dita Cuenca, Tulos Rosario, Brgy. San Guillermo and Brgy. DuhatanLipaCity; Waterworks projects at Brgy.

Banaba, Padre Garcia and Brgy. Darasa, Tanauan in cooperation with the Rural Waterworks Devt.

Committee (RNDC) and Dept. of Public Works and Highways; and Family Tree Farm Association in Tulos,

Rosario, Bats. Wherein member-consumers were given ipil-ipil seeds to be planted in a 914 hectare lot in

the said Barangay. Ipil-ipil trees yielded from this farm were made into charcoal and were used in the gasifier

at Tingloy.

BATELEC II has also Community Relation Program that identifies the variety of needs in our coverage

area. Don Leon Dolor Memorial Elementary School at Antipolo del Norte, LipaCity savored the benefit of

ComRel Program when they received the brand new computer set as donation to the students of the said

school. The coop also participated in sports activity when it joined the Mayors Cup Basketball League at

Taysan, Batangas having some ex-PBA and NCAA player as a member of the team. ComRel Program also

aims to disseminate necessary information to the consumer like “Anti-Pilferage Placard Posting” within the

coverage area to increase the awareness of the consumers on the penalty to the violators.

In December 1990, the Coop reached a higher plane by attaining Class A category. Indeed it was the

realization of the Coop's tireless effort and fulfilment of its ultimate dream. However, looming on the horizon

then was a storm. 1991 and 1992 were the most challenging years for the Coop as it was marked with labor

disputes and management upheavals. This conflict led to operational trouble and the member-consumers

loss of trust and confidence in the Cooperative, unpaid amortization to NEA, accumulated arrears to

NAPOCOR of more than P53 M, uncollected power bills of more than P98 M. As a consequence, BATELEC

II was given a Class D rating and even reached the point of being at the lowest Category E. The Coop was

5
then always threatened of being disconnected by NAPOCOR. NEA however came to the rescue by assuring

the public that everything was under control. It was on the later part of 1992 when the conflicting parties

decided to reconcile. The storm is over, the Cooperative; under the direct supervision of the NEA

Management Teamwork harder to provide the much needed quality public service and consequently regained

the public trust.

September 12, 1998 when the first pole of 69kV transmission line was erected at Barangay Leynes,

Talisay and at the same year, BATELEC II marked its P1B revenue.

On March 11, 2000, 16th Annual General Membership Meeting at Padre Garcia, the consumers from

the coverage areas passed a resolution opposing the transfer of BATELEC II to MERALCO or in any capitalist

which was attended by more than 13, 000 consumers.

Another history marked BATELEC II in its electrification program as it energized the last un-energized

barangay covered by the cooperative, the Brgy. Calawit, Balete, which is, located right at the historical land

of Taal Volcano using solar energy on this undertaking and paved way for the 100% Barangay Electrification

of BATELEC II over 16 municipalities and 2 cities.

BATELEC II was finally granted with the permanent franchise to operate electric service in the areas of

Lipa City, Tanauan City, Padre Garcia, Mataas na Kahoy, Balete, Cuenca, Alitagtag, Malvar, Talisay, Laurel

and San Jose. These areas are previously served by the cooperative through provisional franchise.

More importantly, it is noteworthy to mention that all the endeavours BATELEC had achieved were

realized through the unceasing and unwavering support of its employee. For that reason, BATELEC II

continuously promotes the value of “Employee First Value” to its 748 personnel.

6
Aside from those benefits required by law like retirement benefit, resignation benefit, 15 day vacation

leave, 15 day sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, thirteenth month pay etc., BATELEC II is also giving

Health Care Program, P2,500.00 monthly Rice Allowance, P1,000.00 Birthday Gift, P5,000.00 Uniform

Allowance, P5,000.00 Death Assistance and 7 day Bereavement Leave for the death of legitimate children,

spouse and parents.

From being one of the distressed category D in 2003, through the Cooperative’s commitment and

determination, BATELEC II was classified as extra-large Electric Cooperative and categorized as Class A

Cooperative for the years 2004 to 2012, Class AA for the Year 2013 to 2014 and Class AAA for the year

2015.

BATELEC II was again transformed into a viable Electric Cooperative. Even with limited resources

and huge indebtedness, the management was able to continuously implement the programs and projects to

improve the Coop's operations, hence, the Coop consistently improved, electrified 100% of its coverage area

and made its way to be biggest Cooperative in the country.

VISION

To become the most TECHNICALLY RELIABLE, FINANCIALLY VIABLE and SOCIALLY

RESPONSIBLE Electric Cooperative providing UNSURPASSED QUALITY ELECTRIC SERVICE to its

member-consumers directed towards National economic growth and development.

MISSION

 Fostering utmost trust, undivided solidarity and equal partnership between BATELEC II and its

member-consumers to attain sustainable collective growth and progress in the entire coverage

area.

7
 Developing a highly competent and professional workforce, led by a team of competitive, proactive

and dynamic management, collaborating with the staff in creating and maintaining high

performance work culture.

 Evolving a cohesive and well-balanced organization by embracing cutting-edge technologies in

harmony with human resource development programs.

C. Areas of Training

The regular OJT program accommodates qualified students who are recommended by school to

undergo internship prior to graduation in order to be adequately familiar with the actual office and industrial

operations and management to augment their formal training. The company, as an industry partner,

continuous to tie up with various academic institutions to support this program by giving the student-interns

course related work assignments and expose them to actual learning experiences. The duration of training

is determined by the fixed period or number of hours required by the academic institution per course

requirements.

To familiarize them with their final post, their respective mentors, the people they would be working

with, and their responsibilities within the company. To re-emphasize the fact, it was made clear that they

would be given career specific, specialized OJT assignments that would be of real importance to the

Company, while at the same time giving them actual, and applicable training.

D. Reference Materials

Unfortunately during my internship, we have no reference materials used.

CHAPTER IV
PERSONAL EVALUATION OF
THE TRAINING PROGRAM

21
1. Professional Learning and Development Achieved

My training at Batangas II Electric Cooperative INC, was a good training at all, for me to experience

even for a short period of time of what we are going to do in the actual as I graduated as an Electrical

Engineer. It has given me so much learning in order for me to be ready on what my future would be. It helps

me more understand how challenging it is to maintain the good power distribution.

This training improves and develop my skills for me to be ready on my future career. Being at a

power cooperative distribution, was a good experience since I can apply our field of expertise as an electrical

engineering students. Respecting our seniors who helps us throughout our training. And become more

confident in our field of study and being professional as we go in the site.

2. Modern Techniques, Skills and Tools Used/Learned

I was able to use different set of tools for connecting large size of wires like U-bolt, compressible

aluminum connector and many more. Since most of the weeks on my OJT was on the team of construction,

my internship focuses on improving the distribution to the consumer, we changed transformers, primary and

secondary lines to avoid power breakdown. Maintaining good quality distribution is not as easy as we know,

especially when there is a time that the shutdown of feeders occur. Many consumers are angry because they

want to bring the power back as soon as possible. But as far as they know, when feeders shut down, every

team on the office are surveying for what is the cause of the shutdown.

3. Equipment, machinery, testing apparatus, etc., handled

During my internship I have handled some equipment that use for electricity distribution, like voltage

continuity tester. This tester beeps and indicate red light when there is a flow of voltage in a line even if the

22
fuse is off. This is for the assurance of the safety of the line mans that will perform the task on the top of the

pole.

4. Experiences with the Company personnel involved in the training

I had a great experience with all the personnel involved in our training. All of them are very nice,

and most of them are very friendly, they treat us same as a regular employee. They let us participate on the

site for us to know more how it would be when on an actual basis.

With the proper guide of the employees in our department during my internship I was able to

learned new things that’s in line with my field of profession. Our Supervisor are very sociable and helpful. If

you have questions he is approachable especially the times we need to learn about conducting test. They

are so professional and easily to get along with.

5. Best Practices Used/Applied

The best practices that we applied is that to be safe when performing a task. Because on

distribution, high voltage of power is being dealing with. It can cause major injuries in a single blink of eye.

As they always said, It’s better to be safe than sorry. As they advise, better to ask than to act like you know

what you are doing, because if there’s a mistake occur it will cause so much trouble. So before you act you

must ask some of the personnel to work better in the field. Also I should always be professional in terms of

working in the field, that I should not think myself as an OJT but being a professional engineer for me to

establish confidence.

23
6. Discipline Related Solutions Integrated into the Company

Discipline when it also comes for your being professional at work. The atmosphere in work place is

very different at school. You are with the people different of your ages and have different personality.

Respecting them and having professional attitude. You do need to have respect for others and show common

courtesy to your co-workers. If there’s a fellow employee that you’d rather not associate with, then avoid his

company and don’t get involved in whispering behind his back. Never be afraid to ask question. Don’t be

know it all even though you don’t really understand clearly on what to do in your assigned task.

Also being productive and getting the job done. Since the department have days that we are really

busy and cannot avoid to have a pile of work. Productivity is really important. We have to make sure to finish

on time so that we don’t have to keep them waiting for the time and day we set to give it back to them. Always

follow the company policies. Do not forget what is asked for you. Be approachable to the supervisor and

trainers so you can maintain a good impression. If you have these disciplines then you will gain the respect

you want form the supervisor and trainer.

7. Strong Points

The people we have worked here is very approachable and easy to get along with. If you have

questions regarding to the things you have to do and the company you can ask them. You can feel their

concerns in the interns. They always ask if you are okay or do you get bored they are all sociable. Sometimes

they give you extra break before you leave the department because they know you still have classes to

attend. They are also generous and always include the interns every time there is celebration and afternoon

break. It was an exceptional and meaningful training for an intern like us, but we are thrilled and enjoyed

because we will be able to gain an experience that can possibly help us develop our technical skills.

24
They are very appreciative and always complement on the things you do. My trainers and supervisor

show appreciation even in the little things you have done. Which is a very overwhelming in heart. That

sometimes makes you do more than what is expected. The reason why you want to finish ahead of time and

ask for more task to do. A very strong point of a company is that they are all humble they show they need

each other. And value every worker in the department even the interns. They don’t fail to show complement

on the things you have done.

8. Weak point and suggested solution

Weak point I can see in the company is that there are issue in some workers that there are times

they indirectly and sarcastically talk to each other in purposely to be hear by the other. Crab mentality is also

an issue of some workers here at the company. Sometimes the jokes of my supervisor are below the belt to

some of workers. I also see that some of the trainers don’t work if they are not monitored by the supervisor.

That’s why sometimes at the end of the day they have no outputs. Nothing is wrong in the facilities, but when

it comes to hygiene there is sometimes a problem especially there is pest around. Though it is not inside the

department but it runs around the comfort room.

Maybe to avoid conflicts of the workers. The supervisor must be transparent and fair to the workers.

A good solution to increase the productivity, is that to monitor the workers every day. To have a radio on all

of the services that is being used by the different teams. So the head can easily broadcast the trouble

especially when feeders are trip off. One feeders scopes four to seven barangay, that’s why it is very stressed

full when feeder shutdown occurs.

25
CHAPTER V
RECOMMENDATION

26
A. Potential of the Company as a Training Ground

Different people with different personalities. The good thing about our department is there are a lot

of people that is approachable and easily to get along with. To the point that you will not be shy to ask about

the task and things you have to do even if you don’t get it at first. And as of my trainer that is very appreciative

on the things that I’ve been doing. Even in the small things that I accomplish he shows appreciation and very

thankful for helping him in the task that is assigned. There are a lot of work to do in our department but sadly

there are some trainers that don’t work if the supervisor is not around. It causes the decrease of productivity

in work. That’s why I am also thankful I am with a hardworking trainer.

 Availability and Appropriateness of Facilities, Equipment, and Machinery

The company has all its needed tools regarding on the maintenance of the distribution system. Since

the company focus on the maintaining of distributed power to the consumers, they make sure that when there

is a report of power trouble, they make sure that they will respond immediately.

 Company Personnel Cooperation

The engineer on the office cooperate to the team properly and agreed with the OJT requirements

that we as interns needed. They monitor the interns to achieve or goals as an intern.

B. Duration of the Training

From the demonstration time we’re able to learn on how to use the tools and equipment and the

system in BATELEC. Most of the time our trainer shared their experiences and the knowledge they have

learn in working premises. The quality time we have in internship is enough for us to learn. Not only in

technical but professional practices that can also be applied in school.

27
During the period of time in the internship, different characteristics was developed on me. Like being

punctual, taking initiatives at work and asking for the task that needed to be accomplished, and avoiding

absences without valid reason. As an intern as part of the schools’ program, we are required to finish a 240

hours training duration to practice our knowledge learned from school and have an application on it on the

real work scenario. As an on the job trainee my interpersonal skills was developed through socializing with

the different person on the company. My personality was enhanced when it comes to facing work task and

coping up inside the department.

C. Suggestion for the improvement of the training program

The company should let the Interns experience the different activities in the department. Also to

lessen the discrimination inside the company. Because some trainers there in technical part required more

boys than girls in doing the job. Because inside the department they look girls as doing the part of updating

the system, doing the documentation and monthly report. Though they let us experience testing and repairing

modules. The company trainers should look us all as equal.

I also suggest that if they could maximize the time of the OJT to learn inside the department. Because

I see that there are also things that the other trainers did not let us experience such as using the electric

meter tester. So it will help the interns to improve their technical side. And it is much better that some of the

things are completely explains to us trainees. Because there are task assigned to us that hey only teach us

the step but did not let us know the reason behind doing the things.

28
D. Advise to the future On-the-job trainees

The suggestions that I can impart to future On-The-Job trainees is for them to make sure to research

for the company that they will accept them as trainee and where they can apply their filed of expertise as

soon as possible, so that they won’t have any problems in the future and so that they can start as early. Look

for the company where they can develop you to become a good engineer.

They should finish the requirement as soon as possible to prevent future problem in the future when

the coordinator needed the papers. In my case I didn’t finish my requirement early so it causes me trouble

now. Especially in time that your OJT is on summer class which has a very limited time.

When you are already in training you should always seek for learnings where you can apply it in your

future field of expertise. Learning is the first basic needed in this training, taking down notes of what your

supervisor tells you about your project and gathering the data that can be used in the future.

Student Goal

After completing my OJT at my chose company, Batangas II Electric Cooperative INC., I expect that

whatever things I learned in there, I will be able to apply in my studies or it can help me more as future

electrical engineer. Also, I am expecting that my hands on skills, and knowledge in the technical aspect of

electrical engineering shall be improved.

As a student enrolled in practicum, my other goals are to practice my communication skill, to have

a deeper understanding in Electrical System Design, Automation and Distribution. For communication skill I

will listen carefully to the instruction and if I don’t understand something I am going to ask them to help me.

As an electrical engineering student I have the knowledge on how to Design Electrical System but I don’t

have an enough Idea on how to install it and that will be my second goal for this OJT. Other Interns are assign

to Tapping, Maintenance, Reconnection, and Apprehension team, which I can also join if I intended to.

As a student, I already know that the field of Electrical Engineering is flexible. As an electrical

engineer we are not just designing but we can also have works that are more hands on that also related in

electrical works. At first I expect that what I learned in school would be different when I already enter the field.

I wasn’t able to apply the theories that I learn in school but as time goes by I was able to apply it in some

other way.

My Philosophy of being an Electrical Engineering Student

Being an electrical Engineering Student I need to know how apply the knowledge of engineering,

science and mathematics to complex problems. I should know how to formulate and analyze a problem.

Know a technique or skill in practice for electrical engineering. I should also know how to design an

experiment and conduct it to provide. Be a professional and responsible for the commitment. I should know

how to work as an individual, leader of the team or a member. Demonstrate the understanding in

management principle. And lastly prepare myself to undertake in lifelong learning.

As a future engineer, when working in our field of expertise one thing that needed to be done is

following what the company rules and regulation to prevent irregularities. Being electrical engineer, others

always say that I should apply in MERALCO, after my internship program I can say that electrical engineer

can always excel in any other work related to electrical because of the flexibility of it. Soon I will be electrical

engineer, and I will do my best to become a good engineer that continuously improving towards every aspect.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 2 –April 24 – 28, 2017)

For the second week of my on the job training at BATELEC II, the task that we have done are placing

of transformer, pole, relocation of cluster box, tapping and inspection of meter, and relocation of service drop.

As an intern I’ve watch how they perform the task. When placing transformer first to do is to cut the power so

that the safety of the line man is being assured. While tapping of electric meter and relocation of service drop

did not require to cut the power, because line man has proper training on how to handle that task.

My internship experiences for this week is very exciting and a little bit of tiring. Also because even if

the weather is hot since it is summer time, we will continue to do the task until it is not totally done. I always

watched to the team line man on performing the task and asking to the team foreman about the different

devices that is being used like transformer cluster, fuse link, fuse tube, cut out, and many more.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 3 –May 02 - 05, 2017)

For the third week of my on the job training on the company, we have done almost the same as we

have done last week. We inspection electricity meter, because some consumers are concerned for their

monthly bill, we also placed pole for the improvement of the distribution of electricity.

On this third week of my internship we also replace wood pole to concrete or steel pole, because

some wooden pole are being deceased or not safe specially when there is a transformer on the pole. When

we relocate the transformer and pole my duty is to help on installing the groundings and other materials that

is being used so that it will be easy to the line man to install and relocate the electric line to the new pole.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 4 –May 08 - 12, 2017)

In my fourth week we have done different things. We replace the burned primary line that caused

brown out. Not only primary line is or concern on this week, on other barangay our team replace the

secondary line, we replace it with a bigger size of wire because old secondary line cannot hold the current

that flow from it.

This week also I inform that the schedule of task every Friday is clearing. Clearing is a task that is

being fall on the maintenance. Trees that is near the primary and secondary line must be removed. It is

because when rain comes and when there is a tree that is on the primary line, it will caused short circuit and

brown out.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 5 –May 15 - 19, 2017)

In my fifth week of OJT the first day of the week is the company’s brigada eskwela. We go to the

different schools on tanauan city that has a request on the company so that we can help them on the brigada

eskela. We repair switches, replaced light bulb and covering of wires that is live and cause electric shock to

the students. We also do clearing of trees on the other school because some of the trees are on their service

drop.

Also on this week we replaced the overloaded transformer. On the other day I was on the tapping

team, because construction team was on the task force at mabini batangas. Tapping team is the one who

tapped the newly applied service meter. The foreman on that team teach me how to connect the service

meter on the house.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 6 –May 22 - 25, 2017)

For this week we are assigned to join the maintenance team. We pursue on the reported one block

trouble on one of the barangay in tanauan city. We found the cause of brown out which is a bamboo was

being tapped on the primary line and caused short circuit. On the second and third day of the week. Engineer

Ragasa was joined the team and assigned us to install the donated sockets, switches and light bulbs to the

school that is being benefited.

On the other day of this week, we also done the same as we done on the previous weeks. We remove

pole that is damaged by the road widening and also tapping of new service meter. Since the tapping team

cannot accommodate the other request. Because on the previous weeks, delivery of service meter is being

hold, that’s why the number of service memo for tapping is increased.

Summer 2017

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 7 –June 5, 2017)

For this day, BATELEC II Laurel Unit has requested to have a task force for clearing of feeder four,

in preparation to the incoming rainy season. Cutting of trees that is nearly on the primary line are being

conducted, an eight hour power shutdown to different barangays is occur. This is to ensure that no line mans

are being electrocuted while performing the clearing operation. Trees near the primary line causes electrical

fault because when the rain comes, and tress become wet, when it touches the primary or secondary line

this can cause a short circuit, this is because trees that are wet is a potential neutral or ground.

Being an intern on Distribution Company makes me more knowledgeable, it makes me more realize

that the trouble on power distribution is normally high when it comes to rainy season, especially on province

area.

SUCCESS STORY AND TESTIMONIAL

NAME: MAGSINO, CHRISTIAN M.

INTERN AT: Batangas II Electric Cooperative Inc.

PROGRAM: BACHELOR OF SCIENCE AND ELECTRICAL
ENGINEERING

EXPECTED GRADUATION YEAR: 2017

Briefly describe your internship, co-op, research, or service- learning opportunity, including your day-to-
day tasks, responsibilities, and assignments.
As the OJT goes on, I really enjoyed every task and assignments that’s been assigned to me, especially
when it comes to actual. Every task and assignment given, can be applied in our field of expertise.
Electrical engineer in power distribution is a good experience, this experience helps me to understand
more the different difficulties, and safety procedure in distributing power. Patience to consumers is very
important, especially when power breakdown occurs.

What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization/company?
Being a field engineer was really enjoyed position, where on every task is being conducted, proper
instillation and safety of worker must always be consider. Our engineer says that if one line man is being
electric shocked, engineer is the first liable to the accident, it is because before the line man climb on the
pole or do its task, engineer and fore man must know if it is safe or not.

What have you gained from your experience that you could not have gained from another opportunity?
I can say that in Batangas Electric Cooperative Inc. knowledge about power distribution is the most
gained learnings that I have. Power distribution on this field is different from power distribution on
household or buildings. In this company we can apply all our expertise being an electrical engineer, we
are not just focus on designing but also applying it in the actual. I am able to learn all electrical related
works when it comes to power distribution. This is a good practice of being an electrical engineer than
other company has to offer.

What advice would you give to another student?

Apply for the company where they can develop you as a good electrical engineer in the near future.
And where you can apply your field of expertise, also were communication skills is being develop.

How do you see your experience as meaningful? This might involve skills you’ve gained, information
you’ve learned, mentors you’ve connected with, or projects you’ve completed.
This experience will be a decent help when I apply for my first employment, I can gladly say that I take
in a great deal from my 240 hours of temporary position. The attitudes that I accumulated and the
mentality towards specific conditions will be my key for my first employment sooner rather than later. At
the point when the venture is done, one day I can state that I'm a piece of that venture by one means or
another

Please provide a short quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit /
the internship placement process
The short quote I liked the most is that “safety first before action is done.” Because on power distribution,
high voltage as much as 13.8kV is present, on a split of a second, when safety is not consider, life of an
individual is can be lost.
