ABSTRACT

The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand how public school

teachers are drained in debt and describe the coping mechanisms they employed.

Phenomenological research was utilized through 22 participants in three focus group

discussions to explore experiences of debts. Results revealed that public school

teachers perceived their financial resources as: cash scarcity and loan dependence.

Likewise, the insights and experiences of teachers in relation to debts were:

supplemental value of loans, negative effects of loans and proper attitude towards loan.

Building support system and finding other sources of income were the coping

mechanisms employed by public school teachers in order to overcome the painful

aspects of indebtedness. Debts among public school teachers may have negative

impact on health and work commitment; thus hindering them to have healthier and

fulfilling lives…. Do not copy this yet !DO NOT PRINT please lang jud!

DEDICATION…make your own design.SAMPLE only

I would like to dedicate this dissertation to my loving and

supportive husband, Tan-tan, who has provided continuous

support and encouragement over the course of this endeavor

and for stepping aside as I was stepping up. I would also like to

recognize my two daughters, Ate Shoobie and, Baby Beauty.

They have been patient with their mommy who did not play and

attend to their needs for a while with as much as she would have

liked because she was “doing her homework.”

My parents (Jesus and Vivian Galvan) who dedicated

their lives to my educational, personal, and spiritual growth.

Because of them, I have a lifelong love of learning, and I had the

opportunity to fulfill all my goals. My sisters JOVIE and LILING,

and brother COCOY for all the prayers and the love, none of this

would have been possible without them.

I want to give thanks and praise to my Lord and Savior

Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of my faith.

“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are
possible.”
