1 Product Overview
1.1 Introduction
With the multi-mode era coming, ZTE, who is dedicated to providing comprehensive
network solutions and delivering the future-oriented quality network for the operators,
developed the ground breaking SDR unified platform with the essential feature to support
multi-mode and multi-band radio access.
Based on this innovative SDR platform, ZTE promotes a series of base stations to satisfy
different scenario requirements, including indoor macro, outdoor macro, distributed,
outdoor micro, mini BTS and small cells.
These SDR-based serial base stations aim to design a unified network which can bring
the seamless experience to operators. In GSM, UMTS, LTE or mixed modes, it enables
operators to save CAPEX and OPEX significantly because they only need to deploy one
Uni-Radio Access Network, compared with the independent GSM, UMTS or LTE network.
1.2 Benefits
Flexible Configuration
BS8900A has 3 kinds of basic cabinets. They are site support cabinet BC8910A, outdoor
radio cabinet RC8910A, and battery cabinet PC8910A. They can be combined flexibly to
cater for different scenarios. Auxiliary equipments, including transmission, battery and
power supply, are integrated into the cabinet to provide a full functional outdoor base
station solution. The operator can choose different cabinets for best fit of their own
application scenario. It is a flexible and customized solution.
Easy Installation
BS8900A’s Radio System Unit (RSU) is based on software defined radio (SDR)
technology. The GSM/UMTS RSU can be upgraded to support LTE at the same frequency
band through software update only. Meanwhile, it supports multi-mode at the same
frequency band simultaneously. ZTE’s SDR solutions fulfill operators’ requirements of
hybrid network deployment and long term evolution with the lowest cost.
ZTE’s particular 2T4R RSU supports 2 sectors in GSM/UMTS mode or 2T4R in LTE mode.
In the former case, fewer RSUs are required in the network construction, which reduces
the CAPEX. In the latter case, the spectrum efficiency is optimized and the network uplink
performance is improved. As a result, the better customer experience is achieved.
To meet the growing demands for wide working bandwidth, RF modules with full working
bandwidth are released. The maximum working bandwidth is 75MHz for 1800MHz band
and 35MHz for 900MHz band. For the frequency spectrums become scarce, resources
allocated for operators tend to be characterized with fragmentation and large span. RF
modules with full working bandwidth integrate more spectrum resources and help to
decrease the hardware investment exponentially. (This is the maximum bandwidth of the
RF modules. Please make the actual module as the standard.)
The PA achieves very high efficiency with ZTE patent Doherty, Digital PreDistortion (DPD)
and Dynamic Power Trace (D-PT) technologies. The PA power supply voltage is
dynamically adapted to the output power, reducing RU’s power consumption. The base
station power consumption is greatly decreased, together with several other key energy-
saving features.
Outdoor Macro BS BS8900A adopts hermetic rack. It is water proof, dust proof and EMC
compatible to suit the outdoor application scenario. BS8900A provides IP55 protection
capability and C class lightning protection.
It is designed with heat exchanger technology to meet the requirements of forced cooling,
as to improve the reliability of components. It uses an internal heater to make sure that
non-industrial components can work normally at low temperature. The equipment is
functional when the ambient temperature is between -40ºC and +55ºC.
BS8900A is neatly structured and reasonably laid out, featured with good ventilation and
cooling system. It is designed in full consideration of security and convenience of
installation, operation and maintenance.
With these features, BS8900A provides a fast deployment, low cost and equipment room
free solution.
BS8900A develops a new solution for GSM/UMTS/LTE integrated network and network
evolution. BS8900A can be applied in dense urban, urban, suburban, rural area, highway
or outdoor environment. Furthermore it can fully meet operators’ requirements in different
stages and scenarios. BS8900A can be some combination of 3 basic cabinets and be a
flexible and customized solution for outdoor application scenario. With IP55 protection
capability and -40–55°C working temperature, BS8900A can be used in tough
environments. Typical application scenarios are listed as follows.
When there is no need for RSUs, the solution of BC8910A connected with RRUs is
recommended. In this case, 1~12 RRUs can be configured, with the capacity reaching
G_S444 + U_S111 @ 900M + G_S888 + L_S111 @ 1800M + U_S444 @ 2100M. In
addition, 4~6U free room is provided, as shown in the following figure. If the battery is
required, an additional PC8910A is provided.
BC8910A
1.3.2 Scenario II: Outdoor Macro and Distributed Base Station Solution
When 0<number of RSUs≤6, one BC8910A and one RC8910A are recommended. One
RSU in RC8910A supports 2 sectors in GSM or UMTS network or 1 2*2 MIMO cell in LTE
network, so one BC8910A and one RC8910A support GSM/UMTS/LTE multi-mode, e.g.
G_S888 + U_S222 @ 900M + G_S888 + L_S111@ 1800M or G_S888 + U_S222 @
900M + U_S222 + L_S111 @ 2100M. Additionally, 1~12 RRUs can be connected with
BC8910A (number of RRUs and RSUs ≤12), as shown in the following figure. The
capacity reaches G_S888 + U_S222 @ 900M + G_S888+ L_S111 @ 1800M + U_S222
+ L_S111 @ 2100M + L_S111 @ 2.6G. Furthermore, 4~6U free room is provided, as
shown in the following figure. If the battery is required, an additional PC8910A is provided.
Figure 1-3 Scenario II: Outdoor Macro and Distributed Base Station Solution
BC8910A + RC8910A
When 6<number of RSUs≤12, one BC8910A and two RC8910A are recommended. One
RSU in RC8910A supports 2 sectors in GSM or UMTS network or 1 2*2 MIMO cell in LTE
network, so the solution supports GSM/UMTS/LTE multi-mode at different frequencies,
e.g. G_S444 + U_S111 @ 900M + G_S888 + L_S111@ 1800M + U_S444 @ 2100M +
L_S111@2600M. In addition, 4~6U free room is provided, as shown in the following figure.
If the battery is required, an additional PC8910A is provided.
