COURSE SYLLABUS
Welcome to my class!
Course Description: This course is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified
employees in the fast growing veterinary medicine field and to prepare students for
careers in the field of animal science. This course includes but is not limited to:
Examination procedures
Laboratory procedures
Kennel, cage, and stall care
Proper handling techniques
Grooming techniques
Surgical preparation
Pharmacology
Office procedures
***Students are also strongly encouraged to develop leadership skills through the FFA
organization. ** $20 Dues for the year**
Electronic Devices Policy: The use of cell phones, mp3 players, iPods and other unapproved
devices are not permitted in the classroom during instructional time.
Chromebook Policy:
All students will be issued a Chromebook this year. You are required to bring your Chromebook
to class fully charged every day. Students are not allowed to charge Chromebook during class
time.
Classroom & Lab Expectations:
o Be on time, leave negativity at the door.
o If you are tardy:
Sign the tardy binder with your name, time you arrived, and why you were tardy.
o Come to class prepared, (proper clothing for lab activities, paper, pens, etc)
If you come to class dressed incorrectly to participate in lab that day you will
NOT be allowed to participate and will get a 0 for your daily grade or that
particular lab.
o This classroom and lab area will be treated like a professional veterinary
hospital/grooming facility.
o Cheating will NOT be tolerated.
o NO GUM. Please
o No horseplay in the lab
1st offense – zero for the day and call to parents.
2nd offense – office referral and potential removal from class.
o The bell does NOT dismiss you from class. You are dismissed when the teacher says
“Have a nice day”.
o Respect self, others and property.
GRADES:
20% Daily/Quizzes
20% Participation/SAE
20% Journal – (Composition Book)
40% Tests
Late work/Retesting:
I will NOT accept assignments that are 5 days past the due date. Any assignments turned in at
that point will be recorded as a 0. Any assignments turned in after the due date before the 5
day mark will get no higher than a 70.
If a student fails a test/quiz I will allow them to retake it ONCE. If a student needs to RETAKE a
test they must schedule a time with me to come in after school to take it. Students will not be
allowed to do this during regular class time.
Skyward Grades:
All grades will be available on Skyward. Grades will be updated weekly.
Academic Integrity:
Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and
unauthorized communication between students during an examination.
Consequences for dishonesty:
A grade of 0 for that particular assignment/examination.
I have read the policies and expectations for the Practicum in Agriculture:
Veterinary class and understand them. If I choose not to meet these expectations, I
am willing to accept the consequences.
