Bogus tradesmen are targeting Bacchus Marsh properties

by offering dodgy
asphalt laying services at a discounted rate.
The posing tradesmen are believed to have approached
residents by cold calling their home and offering asphalt at a
price of $20 per square-metre.
Targeted residents told the Moorabool News that the men
spoke with an Irish accent and drove unsigned vehicles, with
New South Wales registration plates.
The men reportedly told residents they had left-over asphalt

Review of allowances under way

By Kate Taylor

The allowances of Moorabool Shire Councillors are up for review – and residents are being
asked to make submissions on how many dollars go into their pockets.
The review was supposed to have been conducted in June last year, within six months of the
previous general council election – however, that review was missed, and instead was put
before the recent February meeting.
The Councillor annual allowance is $24,730, and the Mayor annual allowance is $76,521.
Following recently announced changes by the state government’s Minister for Local
Government, there will be an additional payment of the equivalent of the superannuation
guarantee contribution paid to councillors and the mayor.
2018 Ball an Autumn Festival theme The allowance for Mayor and Councillors will also be adjusted accordingly with any increase,

M adHatters
as determined by Council as a result of the annual automatic adjustment announced by the
Minister for Local Government, and back paid to the effective date of the adjustment set out
on the Victoria Government Gazette.
A report will be brought back to the April council meeting, which will include any
submissions made to the allowances review, after which the allowances will be set and

T ea P arty remain in place, with the annual adjustments announced by the Minister, until the next
Council general election.
Submissions can now be made to council and will be accepted up until 4pm on Tuesday 13
