Informational Packet
Soccer is a team sport and with your child’s decision to play soccer, they are expected to be at practice.
The level of commitment has to be high, so we can reach our maximum potential as a team. Please look at
the practice and game schedule before you go on vacation or plan an outing.
Attending Practice
It is very important for the Student-Athlete to attend practice. In order for the soccer program to continue
to get better, the Student-Athlete musts have commitment and dedication to the soccer team. The soccer
program will not improve if the team is forced to continually practice without the full roster available to
them. Practice is where the Student-Athlete improves on skills and understanding of the game of soccer.
Time management is a big key for the Student-Athlete. All Student-Athletes have homework and tests to
study for, but missing practice or games to do these things are unacceptable. Practice is usually two hours
long and the Student-Athlete will still have time to complete school assignment before or after practice.
If a Student-Athlete is going to miss practice, the coach needs to be notified at least 30 minutes before
practice begins. THE COACH MUST BE PERSONALLY NOTIFIED BY THE STUDENT-ATHLETE, not by a parent
or by another Student-Athlete. If the coach does not hear from the Student-Athlete prior to missing
practice, the absence will be considered unexcused (see below).
If a Student-Athlete misses the practice before a game, they are not allowed to start the upcoming game.
They will be allowed to play if, and only if, the coach determines that it is in the best interest of the team.
Unexcused Absences
If a Student-Athlete does not attend practice, and no one notifies the coach, a call will be made to the
parents to make sure they know their child was not at practice. Student-Athletes are allowed ONE
unexcused absence. Two unexcused absences may result in a player being dropped from the team. One
unexcused absence will result in missing a full game.
Practice
Practice will be held every Monday through Friday, and occasionally on Saturday. Practice typically runs
from 3:15-5:15pm. Saturday practices will be announced during the week and are subject to change.
Punctuality is expected; Student-Athletes MUST be on time for every practice. “On time” means dressed
and ready to go by 3:15pm. If the Student-Athlete is tardy, a note from a teacher or parent must be
provided to the coach.

What to Bring
The weather is always unpredictable during the spring season. Have the following things with you EVERY
SINGLE DAY: (1) Soccer cleats, (2) gym shoes, (3) shinguards [preferably ones that do not have ankle pads],
(4) soccer socks, (5) shorts, (6) sweatpants/warm-up pants, (7) t-shirt, (8) sweatshirt, (9) winter hat, (10)
warm clothes. It is also suggested that players carry a garbage bag with them at all times. This is a cheap
and effective way to keep belongings dry in cases of rain.
Health Conditions
IF STUDENT-ATHLETES HAVE ANY CONCERNING HEALTH CONDITIONS (E.G. ASTHMA), THE COACH SHOULD
BE NOTIFIED ASAP.
Inclement Weather
In the event that there is inclement weather, please check with your coach to confirm whether or not
practice will be held. Under most circumstances, practice will simply be moved indoors. Do NOT just go
home, assuming there is no practice.
Hazing
Hazing or harassment in any form will NOT be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the
team, referral to the dean, and potential repercussions from proper law enforcement authorities.
Shinguard Policy
Shinguards MUST be worn at ALL practices. No exceptions. This is to prevent serious injuries as a result of
shin collisions.
Facilities Care
Student-Athletes are expected to respect the sporting facilities of BHS and opponent schools. ALL garbage
and equipment is to be picked up and put away.
Team Placement
There will be four levels this year: Varsity, Junior Varsity (JV), Junior Varsity 2 (JV2), and Freshman. Tryouts
will be held to determine proper placement of the player.
Playing Time
This is no longer park district soccer. The coach is under no obligation to provide playing time to any
player. Playing time must be earned through dedication, hard work, and talent.
Positioning
Player position preferences will be taken into consideration. However, the coach holds ultimate discretion
over position placement. All decisions will be made based on the best interest of the team.
3
Grades
If a Student-Athlete is failing ONE or more classes, they will not be allowed any playing time in games until
all grades are brought up to passing level. The same goes for any player that has TWO or more D’s. No
exceptions.
Student-Athletes are REQUIRED to ride the bus TO AND FROM games to promote team camaraderie.
Student-Athletes WILL NOT be allowed to be driven home by parents from away games under any
circumstances.
Coaches must wait at the school until all Student-Athletes are picked up.
Parental Support
We strongly encourage parents to attend as many games as possible; the staff and players enjoy the
support and we are sure that all in attendance will enjoy the games. That said, we ask that all family and
friends please sit in the designated bleachers and do not shout instructions to any players and/or yell at
the referee during games. However, please do cheer loudly and offer positive encouragement!
Uniforms
When uniforms are assigned to Student-Athletes, they are responsible for any damage done to the
uniform and must replace the uniform if damaged. The Student-Athlete is also responsible for washing
their uniforms, as this service is not provided by the school. Please be careful when using bleach, as it
tends to discolor the uniforms. All jerseys and shorts are to be washed at the conclusion of the season.
Remind101
It is strongly suggested that Student-Athletes sign up for team updates through a texting service called
Remind101. This service provides a “middle-man” between the coach and his players. The coach cannot
see the phone numbers of his players, and the players cannot see the phone number of their coach.
Standard text messaging and data rates may apply. For more information on this service, visit:
remind101.com/learn-more.
