Texas area with an overall population of 73,597, and a student/school population that caps at
8,635. Socioeconomic status amongst the Jefferson district lies at a 75.3 percent rate for free
lunches and 9 percent are on reduced lunches. This concludes the student population of this
school is classified either low-income or lower middle class. Housing around the area is mainly
older homes, some kept up, then some needing major repair, ranging from years 1960s-early
2000s averaging $30k-120k cost of those houses. There is also section 8 housing
Hispanic population. This makes the ethnic distribution ratio of students different compared to
most other schools with white students making up the school majority. The political climate
shows to be majoratively republican, with votes from the Trump election at 55 percent, Clinton
40, and “other” at 4 percent. All over Temple there is major support for education. Most of the
campuses in need of a “face lift”, being that most of these schools aged over 40, are given a bond
and usually passed within the same year. All technology-based education is infinitely supported.
TISD is nearly all Chrome Book based as of 2009, and has grown considerably in near complete
technology use in the classroom (Chrome Books, presentation stations, tablets etc ;). (WC: 248)
