Communiqué of the National Emergency Operations Command (NEOC) issued at

07h00 on Monday, 05 March, 2018

The Mauritius Meteorological Services has issued a special weather bulletin for strong
wind and high wave warning for Mauritius valid from 05h00 Monday 05 March 2018
up to 04h00 Wednesday 07 March 2018.

Water accumulations have been reported in the following regions: East, Central
Plateau and South-East.

The NEOC strongly advises the public to follow the instructions below:

Do not venture in risky areas such as riverbanks, streams and areas prone to
flooding;
Stay away from landslide affected regions or areas prone to mudflows,
rockfalls and slope failures;
Avoid parking vehicles in drains, near riverbanks, streams and flood prone
areas;
Stay indoors during thunderstorms and if outdoor, avoid trees, plains, hills,
mountains or high structures;
Ensure that electric devices are disconnected;
Road users have to be cautious as there may be foggy patches, water
accumulations on roads and over flooded bridges;
Public to be cautious on the road because of cross winds;
Do not venture in the open seas as well as in the lagoons;
Avoid venturing at sea on islets and performing sea leisure activities such as
diving, kite surfing, canoeing, surfing etc;
Avoid manoeuvring on tall structures and do not engage in leisure activities
such as mountain hiking, gliding and tyrolienne;

Therefore, the NEOC appeals to the public to exercise caution and strictly follow
instructions from concerned authorities.
