Alternator
Abstract
A brushless alternator that consists of interconnected stator coils of
copper wire dispersed in screws and surrounding the main core of
the rotor. The rotor is an iron shaft with a wooden block supported
within the housing of the alternator, and includes 4 circular
neodymium magnets attached on four sides of the block. The
fundamental working principle of electrical generator is Faraday's
law of mutual induction and the basic function is the conversion of
motion into electricity. This model generates an AC output.
Objective
Conduct an investigation on the working principle of a simple
generator and then build your own environmental friendly generator
How It Works?
A mechanical motion is needed in order for the generator to convert
it to electrical energy. Providing this motion requires that either a
magnetic field is generated and a wire coil is rotated within it, or a
How it is made:
magnetic field is rotated within a stationary coil. When the Stator
magnetic field is rotated within the stator coils, all of the electrons
within the wire start to move in one direction and form a current. As
the coil of wire spins, it moves across the electric field first in one
direction and then in another, which changes the direction of the
flow of electrons. This constantly changing nature of the current
provides its name of an alternating current. This alternating current
is useful because it can easily be made into a stronger or weaker
current. The AC-voltage produced by the stator coil are mostly
connected directly to a rectifier or a regulator module to convert
the AC-outputs into DC-outputs. 1)Twelve screws were inserted through the twelve holes drilled
through the container.
