 Provide academic advising to first-year and undecided students; assist students with developing degree
completion plans, general course selection and registration; monitor student progression through schedule
checks, progress reports and workshops.
 Guide undecided students through the major exploration process to aid with major declaration.
 Coordinate with the College of Letters and Sciences Advising Office and faculty to provide advising and
registration assistance during Plan-It Purple Days.
 Present to undecided perspective students and their parents at Warhawk Premiere Days.
 Co-coordinate the Early College Credit dual enrollment program; assist high school counselors, parents and
students with course selection; review application materials and consult with department chairs to determine
course eligibility.
 Supervise the data graduate assistant responsible for compiling data for office reports; provide mentorship and
career guidance based upon advisor observations and reflections; encourage and provide opportunities for
professional development.
 Mentor a new staff member; assist with onboarding and initial training; facilitate the advisor’s smooth transition
into advanced responsibilities; oversee the creation of a long term professional development plan.
 Serve as the liaison to the Economics, English, Foreign Language, History, International Studies, Japanese
Studies, and Liberal Studies departments and majors in the College of Letters and Sciences; work with the chairs
and coordinators to ensure the organization and accuracy of the advising center’s planning sheets; establish a
line of open communication to ensure information is distributed in a timely manner to the appropriate individuals.
 Chair of the advisor training office goal committee; evaluating the office’s current training procedures; exploring
best practices for advisor training; developing a comprehensive training program that extends beyond the initial
onboarding based on the NACADA Core Competencies.
 Member of the graduate assistant office goal committee; established and lead a more comprehensive training
based on the best practices in the literature with the goal of preparing graduate assistants for not only their
current role, but their next professional step.
 Member of the data office goal committee; assessing what data is collected by the Academic Advising &
Exploration Center, evaluate and adjust the center’s surveys, and created a standardized data collection
procedure.
 Chair of the technology office goal committee during the 2015 – 2016 academic year; collaborated with University
Housing to explore the utilization of Mapworks in the advising process; partnered with the Registrar’s office to
implement the ability to search for classes by general education designation in PeopleSoft and to develop a more
comprehensive query for the advising center.
