When we started talking about our original work, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I had
no where to start, there is just so much to talk about when it comes to Dermatology. However,
when I did my research assessments over the five most common skin conditions, they all had
something in common. They all had medications that had mild to severe side effects. The topic
that interest me the most was, acne because of accutane. Accutane is a very strong medication
that treats serious cases of acne. This made me want to do a case study over a person who is
taking accutane and observe if they have any of the side effects. But, to me, this case study was
not going to benefit anyone or help anyone. As a dermatologist, I want to help everyone that I
will encounter and help them feel comfortable in their own skin.
My original work will be a “How To Take Care of Your Skin, plus more”. I chose to do a
how to video because the people I’m surrounded by always ask me what they should do for their
skin and the best products for them. This video will have information that is easy to understand
by the watcher and it will be very interactive. This video will also include tips and tricks on how
to care for their specific type of skin condition/skin type. This project will hopefully benefit all
of the people will watch this and they will get one or two things out of this video. This video will
answer some of the most asked questions when it comes to skin, day/night time routines,
Before I began to shadow Dr. Dharamsi, my knowledge of skin conditions was very
limited to acne and eczema from personal experiences. I only knew the names of some of the
most common skin conditions. However, after one mentor visit with her, I learned more about
skin conditions. While shadowing Dr. Dharamsi, I learned about the causes and symptoms of
conditions such as: seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, sebaceous hyperplasia, psoriasis, acne,
rosacea, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, lentigines, cherry angiomas,
and many more skin conditions. The first day I shadowed Dr. Dharamsi, she did many procedure
to remove basal/squamous cell carcinoma and precancerous moles. She explained how one could
● Asymmetry/Abnormal -- One side of the lesion does not look like the other.
● Color -- Melanomas are often a mixture of black, tan, brown, blue, red, or white.
● Diameter -- Cancerous lesions can be larger than 6 mm across (about the size of a pencil
eraser), although with early detection they will not reach this size.
She uses this when she completes her full body examinations.

Watching the videos and doing the post-module tests, has given me a better knowledge of
Dermatology. Now that I’ve finished this program, I hope to put all of the knowledge that I have
acquired from the program to use while shadowing Dr. Dharamsi. Such as speaking to the
patients, charting their History of PResent Illness (HPI). I will compile all the knowledge I’ve

This will be a very time consuming and tedious task, but I know the outcome of this
video will be amazing. When I present this video to my friends, family members and at Final

Through the creation of my “How To Take Care of Your Skin, plus more” video, I am
hoping to gain more knowledge of these skin conditions and how people with them take care of
their skin along with basic skincare for people who don’t have these skin conditions. This video
will give a better insight into the lives of people with these conditions. The video is intended to
be viewed by family and friends at the Final Presentation Night and by the people who visit
Legacy Dermatology in Frisco,TX. I also hope that this video will be useful to others who may
