INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD

Directions: Using the template below, describe how you would use the interactive whiteboard in your
future classroom. Consider if your ideas is teacher centered or student centered. The learning activities
should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will view/use/benefit from students’
work.
Name: Madison Hilton
Grade Level: 9th Grade

Description of how to implement in the class: Students will work at their own pace by having the
lesson plan created via the SMARTtech Learning Suite. The lesson will begin with a quiz game where
students review the content that has already been learned regarding functions. The next step is to
match definitions with the new material- students will check their work using the “hide and reveal”
tool. Students will take turns using the SMART board at the front of the classroom to plot points on a
pre-generated graph and graph a function. This activity will be supervised by the teacher for a quick
assessment, but the student will be doing the activity themselves. Students will have the task to
create their own function and exchange with another student to practice graphing. At the end of the
lesson, students will play a review game together by choosing a student to go up to the SMART board
and play the game together.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): LoTi Level 4: 4b- Routine Integration. The students
are fully engaged in self-directed, problem-based learning while engaged in this lesson plan. There is
minimal teacher instruction.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. What I have not tried before is a lesson where
students are working at their own pace. I have also not tried minimal teacher instruction. The goal for this
lesson is to give my students more confidence in taking control of their own learning and incorporate fun
activities (matching games) with learning mathematics.
Importance of technology: Technology is a huge part of society and education. Incorporating technology
into the classroom makes learning more applicable to real-world problems. Students are more engaged and
more willing to participate in the classroom when technology is being used as a learning tool. It also
promotes hands-on learning, which promotes cognitive development.
Reflection: I learned many new things after working with the SMART boards. One of the most important
features that comes with this software is the Learning Suite. This can be used on any device with an internet
connection and at any time. This feature allows teachers to upload the lesson plans to a site and have all
students interact at the same time and upload recordings of the notes along with audio commentary. I
believe this feature is extremely important for students who are absent or unable to attend school because
they can receive the instruction visually and with audio. This allows the student to stay on track without
falling behind.
