PREFACE
It has thus always been the concern of the Ambiyā ‘alayhimus salām
and the pious predecessors that their descendants remain firm upon
the Pure Dīn. Alhamdulillāh, with that desire in mind, this slave has
made an effort in that direction. This book is a result of that. May
Allāh Most Pure, accept it and make it a means of success in both
worlds for this slave and the compiler Nu’mān; and especially for
those who assist the Jāmi’ and those who read and practise upon
this book. May Allāh admit us all into Jannatul Firdaws.

Your servant,
‘Abdul Mannān ‘Abdurrazzāq
Al-Haram, Makkah ash-Sharīfah
O Allāh, make our ends good in all our affairs and save us from the
humiliation of this world and the punishment of the Hereafter.

Nafl Salāh
Tahajjud
28
Rasūlullāh said, “The night Salāh is the most virtuous Salāh after
the Fard Salāh just as the fast of Āshūrā is the most virtuous after
the fast of Ramadān.”
[Muslim, Ibn Abid Dunyā, Ma’āriful Hadīth – narration of Abū
Hurayrah ]
Some elders emphasise the fast of Shawwāl because its reward is
given with that of the Fard fasts.
[Mawā‘izh Ashrafīyah – Ashraf Alī Thānwī ]
Tahajjud consists of 2-12 Rak‘āt.
Ishrāq
Rasūlullāh said, “He who peforms Fajr with Jamā‘āh then sits
engaged in Zikrullāh until after sunrise and then performs two rak‘āt
receives the reward of a Hajj and ‘Umrah.”
[at-Tirmizī, Abush Shaykh, al-Hisn al-Hasīn – narration of Anas ]
If for some necessity you have to leave the Masjid, perform the two
rak‘āt after sunrise. It will not be bereft of reward.
Duhā (Chāst)
A Hadīth Qudsī narrates Allāh as saying, “O Sons of Ādam! Perform
four Rak‘āt for My sake in the beginning of the day, I shall suffice you
until the end of the day,” (ease all your difficulties).
[Ahmad, at-Tirmizī, an-Nasāī, al-Mishkāt – narration of Anas and
Abud Dardā ]
Rasūlullāh said, “Charity is obligatory on each joint of the body.
Two rak‘āt of Duhā suffices for this.”
[Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, an-Nasāī, ad-Dāramī, Ahmad, al-Mishkāt, Ibn
Hibbān - narration of Abū Zarr and Buraydah ]
Rasūlullāh said that Jannah has a gate called, “ad-Duhā.” Whoever
is punctual with this Salāh will enter through this gate.
[at-Tabrānī, Ibn ‘Asākir – narration of Abū Hurayrah and Anas ]
Rasūlullāh said that he who is regular with this Salāh will have all
his sins forgiven even if they are as numerous as the foam of the
sea.
[Ahmad, at-Tirmizī, Ibn Shāhīn – narration of Abū Hurayrah ]
Duhā consists of 2-12 Rak‘āt
Awwābīn
Rasūlullāh said that he who performs six Rak‘āt after Maghrib,
receives the reward of 12 years of ‘Ibādah. This is on condition that
he neither commits any evil nor utters any useless speech in
between.
[Ibn Khuzaymah, al-Bayhaqī, Ma‘āriful Hadīth – narration of Abū
Hurayrah ]
If one cannot perform six, perform four or at least two.
29
To gain additional closeness to Allāh, one may institute multiple
intentions during nafl Salāh. Therefore add these intentions in at the
least the last two Rak‘āt of your nafl.
1. Salātut Tawbah – repent of all minor and major sins.
2. Salātul Hājah – for your current and future needs and that of
all friends, family, beloved ones and Muslims
3. Salātush Shukr – gratitude for all bounties, those we are
aware of and those we are not.
4. Salātul Istikhārah – seeking goodness in all one’s work for
the day. If you recite the du‘ā, replace اَن هاذاَ اَلمرwith
ي اَرحملر
ّ َ اAyy amrin.
Salātul Hājah (Need)
Rasūlullāh said: When you have any need from Allāh or any
person, perform wudū well. Perform two Rak‘āt. After Sālam praise
Allāh and convey salutations upon me. Then recite

Your mercy; those resolves which will earn me Your forgiveness; the
wealth of all pious deeds and safety from all sin. Do not leave any sin
of mine except that You forgive it, no worry except that You relieve it
and no need pleasing to You except that You fulfil it. O Most Merciful
of those who show mercy.
[at-Tirmizī, Ibn Mājah, Hākim, Ibn Hibbān, Ibn Najjār, Bazzār, Ibn
Mandah, al-Amālī of al-Mukhlis – narration of ‘Abdullāh bin Abī Awfā
and Abū Hurayrah ]
Thereafter beg Allāh with full humility for your need.
Salātut Tasbīh
Rasūlullāh taught this special Salāh to his paternal uncle, al-‘Abbās
and said, “If you do this Allāh will forgive all your sins, be they past
or future, old or new, unintended or deliberate, minor or major.”
[at-Tirmizī, Abū Dāwūd, an-Nasāī, Ibn Mājah, Ibn Khuzaymah,
Hākim, at-Tabrānī, Ibn ‘Asākir, Hulyatul Awliyā of Abū Nu‘aym, al-
Bayhaqī, al-Mishkāt – narration of Ibn al-‘Abbās , Ibn ‘Umar and
Abū Rāfi‘ ]
There is no stipulated time for this Salāh. However, it is better if is
performed after Zawāl of Yawmul Jumu‘ah, before the Khutbah.
Method:
Make your intention of 4 Rak‘āt Salāh. Recite 75 times in each
Rak‘āh
ِ ا رو اَحلرححماد
ل رو ل ِاَرلرهاَ ِاَلل اا رو اا اَرحكربار ِ اسحبرحارن
Subhānallāh. Walhamdu lillāh. Wa lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu Akbar
Allāh is most pure. All praise belongs to Allāh. There is no god but
Allāh. Allāh is the greatest.
In the first Rak‘āt after the thanā, Fātihah and Qirāah, recite it 15
times. Thereafter 10 times each as follows. 10 times during rukū‘
after the Masnūn recitation. 10 times in qawmah (standing after
ruku‘). 10 times in each Sajdah after the Masnūn recitation. 10 times
whilst sitting between the two Sajdahs. After the second Sajdah sit
and recite 10 times. [The 75 are now completed]. Thereafter arise for
the second Rak‘ah without repeating Allāhu Akbar. Complete 75 in
each Rak‘āh the same way. In the second and fourth Rak‘āt recite 10
times whilst sitting after the second Sajdah then recite at-Tahīyāt.
[Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah, al-Bayhaqī, al-Hisn al-Hasīn, Ma‘āriful
Hadīth
– narration of Ibn al-‘Abbās ]
This deed should be done for seven nights (before Jumu‘āh) without
losing any week in between. The best is if one can recite these
Sūrahs in Salāh as described. If one cannot recite from memory,
recite the four Sūrahs from the Qurān as described, between
Maghrib and ‘Ishā.
Sajdah is wājib upon one who has recited a Sajdah Āyah, even if
he is deaf. It is also wājib on one who has heard someone else’s
recitation.
[at-Tahtāwī, al-Bahrur Rāiq, I‘lāus Sunan]
If one merely writes or looks at the āyah and does not utter it,
Sajdah is not wājib.
[at-Tahtāwī, al-Bahrur Rāiq, Munājāt Maqbūl]
Or recite:
راَللّاهلم اَحكِفرناهاَا ِبرما ِشحئ ر
ت
Allāhummakfināhu bimā shi-ta
O Allāh! Suffice us against him with what You please.
[al-Bukhārī, Muslim, Ibn Abī Shaybah, Ahmad, Ibn Khuzaymah, al-
Bayhaqī
– narration of al-Barā bin ‘Āzib ]
Recite the Name of Allāh, ريا رباِقىYā Bāqī 1000 times. Recite

Āyāt of cure
Abul Qāsim al-Qushyarī narrates that his child became so ill that he
feared that the child was going to die. He saw Rasūlullāh in a
dream and explained his child’s condition to him. Rasūlullāh asked
him why he did not practise reciting the āyāt of cure and seek cure
through them. He searched through the Qurān, and found six āyāt of
cure. He wrote them on and then dissolved them in water. When the
child drank the water it was immediately cured.

Manzil
Ubayy bin Ka‘b narrates that a Bedouin came to Rasūlullāh and
said that his brother was experiencing difficulty. When Rasūlullāh
asked what the difficulty was, he replied that it was some kind of
insanity. Rasūlullāh instructed the Bedouin to bring his brother to
him. He did this and Rasūlullāh recited the below āyāt and blew on
him. The man was cured as if he had never been ill.

Allah! There is no god save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither
slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. Unto Him belonges whatsoever is
in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that
intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knows that which is in
front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass
55
nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne extends over
the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving
them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous. There is no compulsion
in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he
who rejects false deities and believes in Allah has grasped a firm
handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower. Allah is the
Protecting Friend of those who believe. He brings them out of
darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are
false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are
rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein forever.

Verily your Rabb is Allāh Who created the heavens and the earth in

Blessed is Allāh, Rabb of the worlds. Call on your Rabb with humility

In the Name of Allāh, Most Merciful, Merciful unto all. By those who
set the ranks in battle order. And those who drive away (the wicked)
with reproof And those who read (the Word) for a reminder, Lo! Your
Rabb is surely One. Rabb of the heavens and of the earth and all
that is between them, and Rabb of the sun's risings. Lo! We have
adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets: With
security from every rebellious devil. They cannot listen to the Highest
Group for they are pelted from every side, Outcast, and theirs is a
perpetual torment; Save him who snatches a fragment, and there
pursues him a piercing flame. Then ask them Are they stronger as a
creation, or those (others) whom We have created? Lo! We created
them of sticky clay.
This Manzil is a tried and tested formula against evil Jinn, magic and
certain other perils. These same āyāt, with some more or less, are
found in Baheshtī Zehwar of Mawlānā Thānwī. al-Qawl al-Jamīl of
Shāh Walīullāh Muhaddith Dehlawī, states, “These are 33 āyāt which
repel magic and devils and protects against thieves and beasts.
Bahesgtī Zewar states, “If someone is suspected of being afflicted
with evil Jinn, write these āyāt and hang it around his neck. Recite
them and blow in water which you should sprinkle over him. If there
is evil effects on the house, recite the āyāt over water, blow on it, and
sprinkle in the four corners of the house.”
Shāh ‘Abdul ‘Azīz Muhaddith Dehlawī wrote that one should write the
last āyah of each Sūrah and hang this as a ta‘wīz around the neck.
This offers protection against magic and all evil effects.

O my Rabb! Let our stopping be blessed. You are best provider of

[al-Muminūn:28] [A‘māl Qurānī]
Qitmīr was the dog of the Companions of the Cave and will be an
animal of Jannah.
[Ibn Abī Hātim, Ibn Mardawīyah, Ibnul Munzir – narration or Ibn
‘Abbās ]
If you experienced a nightmare, spit lightly to the left and change
the side you were sleeping on. [al-Bukhārī, Muslim]
Thereafter recite thrice: A ‘ūzu billāhi minsh Shaytānir rajīm
[al-Bukhārī, Muslim, at-Tirmizī, Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah, an-Nasāī
– narration of Abū Hurayrah ]
The seriousness of illicit glances lies in the fact that while one initially
consoles oneself that one did not engage in other sins, it creates a
fire leading to other sins. The friends of Allāh experience a strange
discomfort when in the presence of people who engage in this sin.
For example, ‘Uthmān once complained, “People commit zinā with
their eyes and then come to my gathering!”
[Zimmul Hawā Zimmuz Zinā of Ibn Abid Dunyā, Khutubāt Hakīmil
Ummah]
Islām places great emphasis on the purity of both heart and eyes.
Mawlānā Thānwī quoted the poem of al-‘Allāmah Iqbāl in this regard:
Wisdom says that you have also been give Lā ilāha but what has
been achieved?
When the heart and eyes are not Muslim then there is nothing.
Hajj is the the fifth and final Pillar of Islām. It is Fard once in a lifetime
upon a Muslim who can afford it. Rasūlullāh said, “Hajj is ‘Arafah.”
[Ahmad, Hākim, Abū Dāwūd, an-Nasāī, ad-Dāramī, at-Tirmizī
– narration of ‘Abdullāh bin al- ‘Abbās ]
The staying at ‘Arafāh is thus the greatest part of Hajj. He who has
the good fortune to perform it should use every moment there in
humbly supplicating before Allāh. Rasūlullāh has taught us to recite
the following du‘ā at ‘Arafāh, on the Day of ‘Arafāh, after Zawāl,
facing Qiblah. Recite each of the following 100 times:
ك اَيلقديرآْنن لننراَمد ن

Indeed, [O Muhammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur'an

. [Dur Nayab – Moulana Abdullah Shah)
Having examined matters which harn one in world and Dīn, I had
advise you to be especially cautious about the following:
1. Do not act on your lusts and anger.
2. Haste is an extremely bad thing.
3. Do not undertake a matter without consultation. Consult your
seniors.
4. Abstain from backbiting completely.
5. Whilst speaking much and mingling much with people is
permitted, it causes much harm especially when befriending
all and sundry and worse, when confiding your secrets with
them.
6. Do not eat to your full desire.
7. Do not engage in sexual intercourse if there is no extreme
need.
8. Do not take a loan without extreme necessity.
9. Do not even come near unnecessary spending.
10. Do not gather unnecessary belongings.
11. Do not be harsh. Be lenient and forebearing.
12. Avoid ostentation of deeds and imposed formality as much
as possible. This includes word, deed and food and clothing.
13. A leader should neither be aloof from his followers not freely
socialise with them. He should as far as possible not seek
anything from them, especially regarding worldy benefit.
14. Keep your transactions clean. This is more important than
even piety.
15. Exercise extreme caution when narrating. Great pious and
intelligent people avoid this, whether passing on a narration
or merely understanding it themselves.
16. Do not use medicine without extreme necessity and the
guidance of an expert, well-wishing advisor.
17. Save the tongue from every sin and unnecessary talk.
18. Remain firm on the truth while avoid insisting on your
opinion.
19. Do not increase in your associations with people.
20. Do not interfere in the worldy affairs of others.
21. As far as possible do not desire things of this world. Let not a
moment pass without concern for the Ākhirah.
22. Always remain in such a condition that when death comes
you will not fall in the purview of the āyah, “If only you give
71
me a respite to a near time I shall definitely afirm and be of
the pious.” Always consider that each breath may be your
last. Always seek repentance for the day’s sins before night
arrives and for the night’s before day. As far as possible fulfil
the rights of people.
23. Death with Īmān isn indeed the best of bounties. Maintain
correct beliefs. Constantly ask for this bounty with all humility
especially after the five Salāh. Thank Allāh for the gift of
Īmān bearing the following āyah in mind, “If you are thankful I
shall definitely increase for you.” This is amongst the
greatest means of attaining death with Īmān.
[Mawlānā Ashraf ‘Alī, Anfas ‘Isā volume 2]
