1. Educational supervision looks like a one way street, in my eyes. When an educator is
being supervised there is a fear of a “gotcha” moment when they principal catches your
mistakes. This is why educators get stressed out when they are going to be supervised.
The goals and strategies are to help classroom educators to improve and reassure the
supervisor that the educator is doing their job. Sometimes there are issues that present
themselves. An example of an issue would deal with teacher/student interaction because of
classroom management. Then the supervisor could help equip that educator with different
strategies to help improve their classroom management.
If I was in a supervisory role I would do my best to breathe confidence into my 1st year
educator. The biggest thing at this point for them is confidence and believing in themselves. The
way I would do that is to have more two way conversations with them about being supervised
instead of me, the supervisor, telling them what they need to improve on. If the 1st year educator
gains confidence it will help them in all the other facets of teaching, especially classroom
management.
