Lesson Plan for Year

What do students
The students are familiar with the text “Who Sank the Boat” by Pamela Allen. We have discussed basic concepts of why the boat in the book might have sank. The

* This week we have been doing activities about the book “Who Sank the Boat” by Pamela Allen. Today
EYLF Links we are going to do a special science experiment. We will be testing to see which things we use every
day will float or sink!

Because we are going to use water the experiment might turn out to be quite messy, so we will be
doing this activity outside. Today I will be looking out for two people using their best manners. These

ping pong ball and two things that sank e.g. a rock and a toy snake.

Explain what the activity involves.
- You will hold up an object and the group will guess whether it will float or sink.

floated and which sank. Briefly discuss what each student will draw on their observation sheet. Have a
worksheet available to explain.

For the worksheet, they will need to draw two objects that floated and two that sank.

Conclusion-

Class discussion about our observations.

Which objects floated?
Which sank?
Do we know why?
Did any of the results surprise us?
What could we test next time?
