Dear Parents,

We are sending home a communication of ongoing student learning. We have

been working on a Social Studies unit that also combined content from curricular
areas of math, language arts, and art.
During our 2-week practicum in your child’s kindergarten class we have worked
with the students on different components of social responsibility, identifying the
differences in families and being able to identify the members/helpers in our
community.
We read the book “Have you Filled a Bucket Today” by Carol McCloud and the
students drew pictures to show how they could fill someone else’s bucket.
We discussed how families can be different and read a book called “Families” by
Shelley Rotner and Sheila Kelly. Students then created a visual representation of
who lives in their house to share with the class.
We worked together to create a community Christmas tree on our classroom door
(it looks great)!
We spent some time talking about community helpers and what they do to help
us. Students had a chance to share what the adults in their homes do to help and
create a career hat for themselves.
We worked together with our big buddy class to create letters to Santa. In our
letters the students identified three good things they did during the year and one
gift they wanted for their family.
Attached are examples of your child’s work representing their learning during our
lessons, a self-assessment, a teacher assessment and next steps for learning.
We have really enjoyed spending our time in your child’s class.
Have a great Holiday!
