Jim & Melissa Marcum Intercessory Missions Update Mar-Apr.

2018

2017
Dear Friends & Family,
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” This Scripture has been ministering to
us so much lately – it’s Psalm 57:2. I (Jim) came across this verse in my daily Bible memorization not long ago.
I’ve been memorizing the Psalms the past few years and I’m up to Psalm 59. I keep five psalms in memory and
quote them each morning while I’m working on a new psalm. I feel the Holy Spirit resting on Psalm 57:2 each
time I quote it! God is telling us that HE HAS A UNIQUE PURPOSE that He is working through everything that
happens in our lives. And as we “cry out” in prayer to Him, He reveals and unfolds more and more of His
purpose. A friend and prayer partner of mine recently had a dream where God emblazed in huge letters to him:
TRUST ME. God is working in a special way we believe right now to remind us of, and to confirm the purpose
He has for each of our lives. And we can TRUST HIM to fulfill his purpose. Won’t you lay hold of this in a fresh
way for your life too!
As we mentioned in last month’s newsletter (wow, can’t believe that 2 months have gone by already!), we
are happy to be back in the flow of ministry here at the Missions Base after a very busy holiday season. We did
take a trip in late January to Kentucky and Florida, which we’ll share about later. We’ve also begun our Spring
40-Days-for-Life prayer vigil and want to share an update with you. Bless you as you read, and may the Lord
encourage your hearts and minister to you, even as you share with us in the great things God is doing!
-Love, The Marcums

Fulfilling God’s Purpose to End Abortion

Our Spring 40-Days-for-Life began this year on
Valentine’s Day, February 14. It was a chilly morning (as
most of them have been here in KC lately!), but we had a
good crowd for our opening rally. We led worship again
and there was such a sweet spirit as we all worshiped
together. We had a special treat as our speaker for the
rally this time was our friend, Bill Velker, from Life
International in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We had lunch
with Bill the day before the rally and caught up on recent
developments with Life International and how the Lord is
leading them. We received training to do pro-life mission work with Life International, and we still believe doors will
open for this! Bill told us of a special pro-life ministry conference coming up this fall in Ukraine. We’re commited to
help with Awaken the Dawn in Jefferson City, MO in September, so we’re investigating the timing and whether we
may be able to also travel to Ukraine and help with the conference. We’ll keep you posted as things develop!

We are half way through our Spring vigil, and though the weather’s
been cold we’ve had great turnouts for our shifts. With Planned
Parenthood just 3 blocks away, the private abortion clinic (Center for
Women’s Health - CFWH) where we hold our vigil had previously
been somewhat overlooked. But, since the Fall of 2014, the Lord
highlighted to our KC Coalition for Life leadership that He wanted us
to minister faithfully at this location (many other pro-life groups are
on-site daily at Planned Parenthood). Dismemberment abortions are
performed at CFWH five days a week, Monday-Friday, up to 22

We had a “turn-around” the week prior to this – PTL! staffs (with trained volunteer sidewalk counselors) five counseling
shifts per week year-round at the CWH. We're the only counseling group at this facility and cover three of the five
days they are open. And right now prayer teams & sidewalk counselors will be there daily M-F through March 25th!
IHOPKC News:
We just wanted to give a few points of news from the Missions Base – God is moving here!
 Our IHOPU classes and our five internship programs are back in full swing after the holiday break. What a great
group of students (young and old!) we have here on Base who are giving this season of their lives to intense prayer
and study of the Word. It’s a blessing to see them around campus and in the prayer room, especially all the new
faces and hungry hearts. The Lord is raising up a zealous group!
 We received a report at our February staff meeting from the Global Leadership Summit that we hosted during the
OneThing conference in December. We had 525 leaders from 22 different nations attend the summit this year, our
largest attendance yet (we nearly doubled in size this year!). We have been targeting emerging leaders who are
under age 35, and this year they made up 60% of our attendance at the summit. Also this year for the first time
some 80-90 Christian business leaders joined us. They greatly value the prayer movement, and came to connect
with us in a deeper way, as well as get ideas & motivation for how to establish prayer in the workplace.
 The second track of our newest equipping initiative “Center for Biblical End-Time Studies” has begun, and our
attendance has increased to 600 students on-site, and another 185 online students (representing 10 different nations).
Interested in studying the Biblical narrative about end times? Check it out at www.ihopkc.org/cbets.
 Our next IHOPKC conference is coming up quickly – “Unwavering Women’s Conference” is March 22-24. This
year’s guest speakers will include: Jackie Pullinger, Havilah Cunnington, and Stacey Campbell, and a number of our
local speakers & worship leaders will be there as well. We have over 900 registered already, but there’s still room
for you! – go to www.ihopkc.org/unwavering.

Trip to Kentucky and Florida

We left on Thursday, January 18 for a road-trip to Asbury Theological
Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Our daughter, Joy, and her husband, Joshua,
have moved there so he can complete the MDiv degree program. We
reconnected with a few students from IHOPU who are already there studying
graduate degree programs, and especially enjoyed seeing one of the couples that
had been a part of the discipleship group we led at IHOPU. Joy & Joshua are
settling in and doing very well, excited about this new season of their life.
We stayed through the weekend with Joy & Joshua, and had a couple great
experiences. On Sunday we went to a new church plant in an urban district of
Lexington. They actually meet upstairs above a brewery! There was a great
spirit there and we met some of the young leaders who have a heart to raise up a
vibrant kingdom expression in a very needy area of the city. Then on Monday
morning we spent some time in the Prayer Room that has begun in Wilmore, not
far from the campus. It’s called Cornerstone International House of Prayer, and
we got to meet their director, Joe Lisa McKenzie. The Lord is raising up many
prayer rooms near universities across the nation, and it was a special blessing to

see & experience this one! Joy is already helping lead some sets there.
After staying with Joy & Joshua a few days, we flew to Florida to be a
part of the staff of “OneThing Orlando.” This was our first time
serving at a OneThing regional conference, and of course – you
guessed it – we ran the bookstore! We connected with so many
wonderful people, and we can testify that the prayer movement is going
strong in Florida. We enjoyed meeting & working with some of the
church staff at Church in the Son in Orlando which hosted the
conference. A highlight for us was hearing Jeremiah Johnson speak on
“Tearing Down the High Places.” It was one of the the most prophetic,
timely words we’ve heard recently. Go listen to it! You’ll find it at: The bookstore at OneThing Orlando

JOPLIN FRIENDS, DON’T FORGET – WE’LL SEE YOU AT VICTORY MINISTRY AND SPORTS
COMPLEX IN JOPLIN ON MARCH 30-31! Meetings are 6-9 pm Friday night, and 9am-noon on Saturday.
Come hear first-hand from the founders of “The Moral Outcry” - a movement being raised up to overturn Roe v Wade.
