Q1. Calculate base parameters for the following single phase system:
(a) Base impedance and base voltage are 10 and 400 V, respectively. Calculate the
values of base power and base current.

(b) Base current and voltage are 3000 A and 300 kV, respectively. Calculate the values
of base power and base impedance.

Q2. A three phase 13 kV transmission line is used to deliver 8 MVA power to a load.The
per phase impedance of the line is 0.01 + j 0.05 p.u., which is referred to base values of
13 kV 8 MVA. What is the voltage drop in the line?

Q3. A three phase power system has two generator connected in parallel to a
transformer and subsequently to a 230 kV transmission line. The ratings for the
components are given as below:
Generator 1: 10 MVA, reactance of 12%.
Generator 2: 5 MVA, reactance of 8%.
Transformer: 15 MVA, reactance of 6%
Transmission line: impedance of 4 + j60 , for which the reactances in percentage are
based on the ratings of the respective components. Obtain the reactance and
impedance values of the components in the system in percentage, based on 15 MVA
and rated voltage of the components.

Q4. Calculate the current values in Ampere flowing in each component of the system
given in the Figure below. In your computation, use per unit method with ratings of G1
taken as base values and assume that the generated line voltage at G1 is 12 kV.

on the ratings of their respective components.

Q6. Obtain complete reactance diagram for the system in Figure 5.12. List all reactance
values in per unit based on ratings of generator G2. The impedances of all transformers
in Ohm are referred to the low-voltage side of the transformers.

Q1. A single phase transmission line with aluminum conductors is arranged as shown in
Figure 3.27. Current originates from conductors in group a and returns through
conductors in group b. The radiuses of each conductor in group a and b are 0.02 m and
0.04 m, respectively. Obtain (i) inductance of each conductor group and (ii) capacitance
between both conductor groups.

Q2. A 3 phase 138 kV short transmission line has impedance per phase of (2+j4) . If
the line is used to transfer power to a 25 MW three phase load at lagging power factor of
0.8 with rated terminal voltage, compute (i) the line efficiency and (ii) voltage and power
factor at sending end of the line.

Q3. A 50 Hz 345 kV three phase transmission line with a line length of 150 km has the
following per phase parameters: Resistance = 0.1 /km, inductance = 1.1 mH/km, and
capacitance =0.02 F/km. The line is transferring power to a 180 MW load at power factor
of 0.9 lagging at rated voltage. Determine (i) ABCD parameter of the line using line
model and (ii) the efficiency of the line.

Q1. A power system has the following load particulars:

Determine:
(i) Maximum demand on system
(ii) Daily energy consumption

Q2. Monthly energy used by Amin and his family as listed below:
Lighting load: 4 tubes of 40 W each for 5 hour daily;
Cooling load: 4 fans 100 W each. Each fan runs for 8 hour daily;
One refrigerator consuming 1 kWh/day
Other appliances of 10 kWh/day.
(i) Determine his monthly electricity bill.
(ii) How can he reduce his electricity bill?

Q3. The yearly duration curve of a certain plant can be considered as a straight line
from 150 MW to 40 MW. Power is supplied with one generating unit of 100 MW capacity
and two units of 50 MW capacity each. Determine:
(i) Installed capacity
(ii) Load factor of the plant
(iii) Load factor of each generating unit
(iv) Maximum demand
