Short story: The Great Senso: return of the hero

Chapter 1

‘They came as a team.’

‘I should take them one by one before they attack me at once.’

Suddenly, his vision has one signal alarm popping up on the bottom left. It is a signal that alarm
when the trap has been activated. After he notices the signal, he then moves in a speed of
lightning. His body turns into a lightning, within one second he has been in front of his trap. A
person got stunning inside the electric net. Not to waste his time, his hand have a bunch of
lightning running around, chop to the back of the neck causing the critical damage to that player
and have dead sign popping up on top of his body. Five second later the body started to fade
away, he try to dash away as fast as possible before other players will saw him, but it was too
late.

“That was fast, Matt.” The sound came from behind of him. He then jumped forward to keep the
distance away and turn back to look. This make him shudder and reveal his shinning cobalt eyes,
not because he scared but it’s because all enemy have stand in front of him already. He sneer and
said “You guys won’t be able to beat me, even you all attack me at once especially you, Brooks.”
The reason is he trying to make them angry as possible because Brooks will be uncontrollable
and the team work would be collapse.

“How dare you? Even a great solo player like you would not be able to escape this situation.”
Said Brooks. Matt reply “Because you’re scaring, that why you need to bring your team!”

“You fool!!!” said Brooks. After yelled, he jumped out to stab him with a saber knife, but he was
shock because there is nothing there. While Brooks is coming toward him, Matt already move
behind him by the benefit of his skill of lightning dash. Matt kick Brooks away and release the
thunder to one of the enemy in front at the same time. None of them have fade away yet, but he
is sure that they cannot move freely like before. ‘This should make Brooks angry enough.’
Brooks bite his lips, pulling out many kind of knife and hold it at once. “This is want I want”
Matt are smiling like this is want he plans for. Many knife have been throw out from his hand
toward Matt, but he already used the lightning dash away. So the knives have no longer toward
Matt but his teammate. Brooks have train and level up a lot of his skill about throwing knife, the
knives are flying cut the air and screaming. His teammates have fell to the ground, causing the
dead sign to shown up and faded away with the body. Suddenly MC have interrupted the battle.

“Now the battle royal of The Great Senso of 2080 going to end soon!”

Ton of people clapping their hand and cheering.

“Who will be the champion? The great SOLO player, Matt, The thunder or the joker, Brooks!!!”

‘Why can’t they quiet until the end of battle?’

Brooks have no weapon left any more.

“Hey brooks, wanna use my item?” Matt throw his card to the ground, the card change it shape
and turn into a sharp sword.

“Why?”

“I want to win the battle fairly” said Matt

Brooks laugh and yell “Then, better not to cry because you have already lose a chance to win,
Ha!”

Brooks pick up the weapon.

Matt sneering and say “Who told you I lose my chance?”

The sword start to blinking after Matt have finished his word like it know the time. Brooks have
now understand, this is a trap card not an item. The sword start to blink rapidly. Instantly, the
sword exploded.

Boommmmmm!!!

After the exploded, the text appear in front of him:

“The battle have ended.

Congratulation, Matt the thunder”

Matt walk off a sen zone as a champion. His item in the pocket is shaking, the phone. Matt pick
up the call

“Hi mom! I won the battle.” said Matt

“Congratulation Matt, but I’m not your mom and I have bad news to tell you.” He have a low
voice.

“Who are you and WHERE IS MY MOM!?!?!?!” Matt shouted

“Your mom got an accident, she have sleep peacefully, sorry for that, we have try our best” said
the doctor…

Chapter 2

In 2080, Japanese and Americans together help released the new sport called
“Great Senso” or GSS. Senso is Japanese word which means warfare. This sport rise a
new dimension of sport, games, and battle. Like playing a video games but in real life,
going inside Sen zone will turn you into a player. Each player has different kind of status,
which scan from your ability and talent. Because it like a video games, so inside the sen
zone, people can customize their looks and outfit. The reason of naming this sport Senso
because the whole point of this sport is to battle. Using different kind of weapon e.g.
electric grenade, old rife, laser gun, katana, and even a magic. While in the Sen zone,
after their HP have reach zero, for several second their body will be fade away and bring
them back to the N room. Player that injury inside the sen zone, with the technology, it
will cross out 90% of damage. When player get shoot, the bullet cause you a little bruised
and itching instead of bleeding. Everywhere around the world is using Great Senso. 5
year later, Great Senso have updated the new function. This new popular function
included: trade and buy thing online and exchange the money in and out of the sen zone.
Even people who does not like to battle also join the Great Senso. Written by Walter
Cronkite (2085).
Matt is reading the article from the internet, while walking to the college. He is now 19. Every
day he will wear a locket and a bracelet. Today is the first day at the college. Unlike 2020 and
later, student and teacher have no need to bring a book and pencil. They use only one thing to
learn with, which is a tablet, but more functional and higher tech. ‘I wish history isn’t this
boring.’ His first class is history, learning about the way people live in 2010. After the class
ended, he went to the math class sitting in a group of four, with a face of unexcited. Because he
is genius in every subject or gifted, he have no need to pay attention to the lecture. He feels that
everything is too easy. ‘Can I just skipped the classes, and do something for fun? Hmm.’

“Are everything still too easy for you Matt?” An unknown voice suddenly start the conversation

“Who are you?” said Matt

“Hey dude, can’t you remember me?” A person beside him seem like to know Matt very well.
He rise his arm up show thing he wears, it is a bracelet, the same one with Matt but red. Matt
quiet for a while then he ask

“Jay??”

“Now you remember me” he is smiling.

“This is my friends name Zoey and Rainy.” Jay point to people next to him and introduce to
Matt. Matt got to meet an old friend name Jay, and also a new friends name: Rainy, and Zoey.
Jay is his childhood friend from grade 3. Rainy seem to be a quiet and slow guy, which is
opposite from what Zoey is. After school dismisses, everyone met and talk.

“Let go play GSS together, we can form a new team” Zoey is very excited

“I rather go home, good luck.” Said Matt

“Why????” Said Zoey, but he didn’t say anything, so she continue

“Did you hate GSS?”

Matt reply “NO… but …it just, never mind” then he walked away

“See you all tomorrow.” Said Matt

Quietness have cover the entire environment. Jay notice that Zoey and Rainy going to ask
something about Matt.

“What did you want to ask huh?” said Jay

Rainy ask “Did… you know… why he---”

“Why is he being like that?” Zoey does not have the patience enough to wait him to finish

“It because of 5 year ago…, he feel it was his fault that his mother die” Jay explain everything
about the Battle royal and his mother.

“So he is Matt, the thunder.” Zoey shocked.

“I think… we… should help… him out…” said Rainy

Jay pick up the poster and give it to them. The poster have something about GSS in it. Suddenly,
Zoey is very excited, more excited than before. The poster is about The GREAT SENSO: TEAM
DEATHMATCH 2085! Which allow group of player to form a team consist of 3 – 6 member
team. “I think it time for our hero to come back.”

Chapter 3

Today is Sunday. Matt and the gang met up and hang out somewhere at the cafe. Inside the café,
have a very cool and modern designed but also simple. The design use a gray and white as a
tone. The reason this café is popular is because it was one of the café that was owner by GSS.
Many of player would come and meet other here. Jay say that he have something to talk with
Matt.

“So, what is the reason you drag me here?” Matt directly ask the topic

“You need join our team, we need your help” said Jay

“You not need my help, you already have two professional player beside you, Rainy, the cyclops
who is the gunner which close the left eye and open eye on the right for aiming. Next, Zoey, high
physical ability, high protection, and shield breaker. Last but not least, the best supporter, you.”
Matt explain information he know about them, and he might even know more than he just say.
“But it not enough for us!” Zoey is begging him.

“Zoey is right, to win the battle we need your help.” Said jay

“Not me, you know I already quit, good luck” Matt is walking away, again, but he need to stop
when Jay is trying to say something.

Jay said “Your mom would want you to be happy and move on, not being like this, it isn’t too
late to come back. We will wait for you in the battle.”

Matt hear everything but pretend to not to listen and continue walk away.

“Will he come?” Zoey ask

“I guess so” said Jay

Three of them walk out of the café, and directly to register for GSS. He fill in the name of the
member, included Matt. Then he stop at the team name, he haven’t think about the name of the
team at all. Suddenly he smile, and fill in the blank: The God of Beast.

“Not thing would be perfectly enough as this” said Jay

“So… when is…”

“When is the battle day?” Zoey help Rainy finish the sentence, or interrupt him?

Jay said “tomorrow is the day”

“…”

Chapter 4

“Lady and gentlemen, welcome all player to The Great Senso: Team Deathmatch!” MC seem to
be even more excited than the audiences. MC continue speaking “Let me explain briefly about
the rule, team Deathmatch is a battle of a team against each other until no one in the team left.
Which team can stand till the last of the game is the winner! This year we have 33 teams
participial in this event. How awesome is that!”

“Jay, will he come?” Zoey ask

Jay said with a hopeless sound “I’m not sure, but I already sent an invite to him, so he can come
join us in the battle anytime.”

Zoey said “it might be easy than what we thought, Jay. There are many rookie team in this
event.”

“You’re right, but beware of brooks team, they’re strong enough to fight with Matt.” Said Jay.

“Who know? If Matt join us he won’t be a solo player anymore.” Said Zoey.

Jay and his friend preparing the item and every equipment for the battle. His character is tall
around 177cm, have a black hair and a brown eyes. Jay outfit always have many of potion, trap,
and items to support his team. Zoey, who have high physical ability, wear only a light armor and
a glove to punch harder. She have a pink eyes and a brown hair. Last, the cyclops, shooting a
gun. His skill is to create a mist and shoot a bullet from unknown location. Rainy doesn’t have
any armor to make him fast. Every team have been ready. When the battle start, every team will
be send to the random location inside the sen zone. Any injury will be heal later at N room.
There is a sentence and countdown in front of the players.

“The Battle is about to begin in 01:00”

“Try not to be outstanding and eliminate team by team, understand?” said Jay

“00:30”

“I … wish he come” Said Rainy

“Same” Zoey reply

“00:03”

“00:02”

“00:01”

“00:00”

“Let the battle begin, NOW!”

“Where are we Jay?” Zoey ask after the battle begin

Jay reply “Somewhere inside the forest”

Boom!!!

The floor is shaking, which mean there already a fight. Every direction have a sound and a
smoke, but none of them have been eliminate yet. Jay and his friend look at each other and
move. Standing still doesn’t help them win, and it would be a great target. The damage seem to
be intense more and more.

“31 team left”

Suddenly the text popping up on the left of every player vision. Everyone stop moving, it was
very fast. Two teams have been eliminated since 3 minute after the battle started.

“Rainy, the mist, right now” said Jay

Rainy close his eyes, his body is shaking. The fog came out of his body and within a minute, the
mist cover everything surround them.

“What happen?”

“Someone is coming, be quiet”

Three of them jump up the tree and waiting. The sound of walking, stepping the leaf, and a
shadow crawling near them second by second. There are 5 of them together. 3 of them are
swordsman, and 2 of them are holding a wand.

“Why has this place so foggy?”

“I guess, GSS might want us to feel more excited”

“There might be someone around here, so be careful.”

They have no idea that the breast have watching them. Rainy see Jay knot his head and point at
the magician. The cyclops have aim his gun down. A gun have a simple design, long barrel, full
scope, but with one function that is unique than other sniper. This gun fire a piece of ice, after the
ice touch the target it will explode and freeze everything nearby.

“Now!” Jay shouted.

Bang!

The ice travel through the air, passing through to two magician head. Their head have been
freeze and dead. The swordsman turn back to look, but it was too late. Instantly, they got tied up
by something. It squeeze them harder and harder.

“Zoey!”

“Just in time”

Zoey jump down from a branch with full power. She move as fast as a bullet, ready to smash the
enemies. Her fist have a light cover with it. It look beautiful and warmth, but they might not
think like that. Zoey knock three of them at the same time. The ground where they have stand
has been gone. The dirt explode create a big hole. Without Jay, they might need to battle with
them directly. He always have a plan.

“Nice move, Zoey”

“You’re welcome”

“28 team left”

The audience cheering and jumping.

“From 33 teams, now we have 28 teams left! The battle just started for 10 minute only. How far
will they can go? Let continue in the battle.” MC who never tired speak up

“Zoey, Rainy, let continue move on before other teams come.” Said Jay.

The battle is spreading out. From team versus team turn into 4 or more team battle against each
other, which mean the rate of the team got eliminate will be increase. 1 hour later after Jay and
his friend battle against other group, there are only 8 team left and have beaten 6 team already,

included the first team they eliminated. Every player must use more than a half of items and

energy. The god of beast have hidden inside the cave for a while. To restore their health and
prepare for the next battle. But they haven’t think that the battle have come near them this fast.

“You guys look so tired, huh?”

Everyone keep the distance away from the voice. ‘who are them.’ Everyone ask in their head at
the same time.

“Oh dear, this is such a bad manner. I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Brooks and this is
my team, The Teki”

There are 6 of them. ‘But why are they look so energetic. Is it because of…’

“Why are we not tired?” Brooks know what they thinking

“Well, it because we didn’t fight with any team yet. We hide and wait until there are only a few
left over to let us smash! Like you guys.” He sneering.

“You cheater!” Zoey shouted

“There isn’t a rule that we need to fight until the end isn’t it?”

“…”

Chapter 5

‘This isn’t good’

Jay, Zoey, and Rainy got surrounded by the enemies. If they fight, the battle will be 2 on 1. Even
health is 100 percent full but energy and tiredness cannot be recover by item. On the other hand,
The Teki, doesn’t loss anything yet.

“It show time, huh?”

Rainy creating a fog like before, but one of them squeeze his neck, pull him up. To protect his
friend Zoey punch his face with all of the power. Suddenly, the light invisible shield appear
between her fist and his face. It strong enough to stop her power, but she didn’t give up. Zoey
punch the shield again and again. “Clink” Sound of the shield cracking. ‘One last hit, this will
able to break the shield’

“Do you really think that I’m going to let you do that?”

“Let see what will happen.” But before she can punch the shield and help her friend
“AAAAH!!!”

“ZOEY!” Jay shouted

Her bodies got the thick invisible wall surround her body. The wall move in closer to her, tighter
and tighter. So tight that she can’t even move. Jay throw the flash bang to them, the light and
sound make them needed to cover their eyes with their hand. He use this time to help Rainy out
of the place, then trying to help Zoey. Jay kicking the one who make the wall to make him knock
out, but his damage was too little. He doesn’t have enough power. Brooks laugh of loud.

“Look at that! Hahahaha, is this all you have to fight with us?”

“Grr”

“Oops, I accidentally kick one little dog.”

“5 team left”

“Huh? I think it time to finish this job”

Brooks pull up his knife, and swing it around. He move as close to Jay, who is lay down on the
ground. The knife is shining, the dark light cover the entire part. Brooks rise his hand up, moving
his wrist and throw the knife away. The weapon doesn’t move forward straight but it spinning.
Jay look at Rainy who still injury, then turn to look at Zoey, she is saying something. I guess she
saying ‘Noooo, don’t give up’

“Gah, I have no choice but to accept my faith, I give up.” He is talking to himself. The time seem
to move slower than usual. He looking at the knife coming close his face. Closing his eyes and
wait.

“Phew, that was close.”

The lightning, pass through the distance between the knife and Jay, but when they turn back to
look at it again, the knife…

“Where is the knife?!” Brooks shocked

The shadow inside the lightning appear in front of the battle. A guys with a white gray hair,
using his cobalt staring at the enemies. The lightning got absorbed to his body, he then turn back
to watch his friend and said.

“Jay, I have read your message. You’re right, my mom would be happier to see me win the battle
win friend”

“Welcome to our team Matt”

“Jeez, Matt, the thunder. Why so sudden.” Brooks stare at Matt

“I just want you to have a little fun before I make you cry.” Matt Sneer

“Aren’t you a solo player? The great solo.”

“That was the past Brooks, and this is the presents.”

After he finish his sentence, the lightning is sparkling in and out of his legs. He dash behind one
of them who capture Zoey right now. Matt pull his hand back charging the lightning, then
moving his arm, hand, wrist, and his body like throwing a Frisbee, but difference. Matt didn’t
throw the Frisbee but lightning. The lightning sparkling like the beast roaring, ready to eat the
victim. The man contact with the lightning, within a second, the lightning splash out of his body
like a water balloon popping. He fell to the ground and faded away.

“How are you Zoey? ”

“Very good, did you think I’m going to said that?”

“Ahem, should we pay attention to them first?” Jay said

“The battle between: The God of Beast full team and The Teki is about to start!” as always, MC
interrupted the mood. Matt stand up after at the same time with his team. ‘They are staring at us’
But the wind have changed side after he came.

“Brooks did you know why our team name the beast?” Jay ask

“Is it because you guy want to frighten other? Hahahaha.”

“It is because we are the beast when we stay together.”

Chapter 6

“Rainy shoot him.” Matt said

Rainy change his weapon from the storage to a normal hand gun. Jay throw the potion to him.

“Damage: 20%↑”

He look at Brooks and fire the bullet. Matt got behind him, but Brooks notice and kick Matt
away. Then he dodge the bullet.

“Nice aiming” Brooks jeer.

“But… I didn’t...”

“Dude, he didn’t aim at you” Zoey said

“Huh?”

Brooks turn back to look where the bullet went to. He open his eyes widely. The bullet hit one of
his friend head. With the boost from potion and headshot cause a lot of damage than usual. ‘Two
of them have been taking down’. His plan is to fight with Brooks later after his team got taken
down. Suddenly, one of them dash forward. Zoey jump forward ready to smash him. Brooks use
this chance throwing his knife. She try to dodge away but it was too late. The knife stab on her
legs.

“This knife will cause a parasite, which mean you cannot move for while”

The man in front of him pull up the katana swords. Spin his body to create a force to take her
down. He then swing the sword to finish her. The swish of the sword through the air, but he
missed. He didn’t publish her to dead, because someone is taking the sword instead.

“Rainy….” Zoey cried

“You are important to the team than me, be careful.” He talking fast and complete the sentence
before he faded. Now the battle is 3 on 4. They trying to do something, 3 of them surround
brooks, touch his body. 3 of the guys then fell to the ground and look skinner, and faded
“What have you done?”

“Nothing, just take some power from them”

Ha! He move very fast, as fast as lighting! He kicks Rainy forward, then go above him and
punch him down to the ground. Also throwing 5 knife to where he is. Rainy didn’t make any
sound but faded away quietly.

“”RAINY!!”” Both Jay and Matt shouted.

“Two left” Brooks turn back, and destroy the distance between them less than a second.

“Matt, take this” Jay throw many of potions to Matt and he also drink the potions.

Matt status:

“Damage: 30%↑

Defense: 25%↑

Speed: 50%↑

Health: 10%↑”

Jay status:

“Defense: 60%↑”

Brooks look at Jay

“You are so annoyed.”

He throw the knife in close up distance. The knife is so fast and powerful, pushing Jay through
the air. Cutting the air and explode like a missile. The trees are shaking, Jay is continue hitting
the tree without stoping

“Jay!!!!”

“Haven’t someone told you to take care of yourself before think about other people?”
Matt dash away, but Brooks is fast. They moving around the trees, like a kid trying to tag other
kid. It seem to be like that but in higher level. The lightning travel everywhere, same as the wind
behind the lighting. Brooks is chasing him, he will punch every time he get near Matt. That
punch he release create a powerful force of wind, chop down many of tree just by the wind from
his fist

“Matt, running around won’t make you win”

“Who told you that I am running around?”

Suddenly, the lightning surround brooks. He will got shock, if he touch it. But it doesn’t be like
what Matt think. Brooks touch the lightning and tear it apart like a weak rope.

He then charging the power in to his knife. The knife is brighter and brighter. The power seem to
be too much for Matt to take it. He put every attacks to him, but the knife absorb every lighting
inside.

“Good luck, bro”

Brooks point the knife to Matt. The light form a laser toward him. Before it reach him, Jay
shown up and used one item “The mirror of damage.” The laser got absorb in to the mirror. The
mirror is shining and cracking. After a while, it stop and suddenly it release the laser back.

“Are you kidding me?”

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

“3 team left”

Jay sit down on the ground, breathing quickly.

“How did you survive?”

“I have high defense and I use a lot of healing potion.”

“Hey, the battle isn’t over yet you know right?” one of the team shown up in front of them

“Aha, I know that.” other team shown up behind them

‘Can’t you just give me a break? NAH!’

Chapter 7

“The winner is the awaken knight!”

Matt is sitting in the N room listening to the GSS live. He lost the battle, but everyone have
known that Matt, the thunder have return. Looking at the locket. ‘Mom thanks for always
supporting me.’ At the end of the battle, Jay and Matt need to handle 2 team at the same time.
They have used all of his energy in the battle with Brooks. So they got third place, but the reward
is only for the first place. From now on, Matt and his team “The God of Beast” have played GSS
together every day. Matt is stronger and smarter, acumen. He has known teamwork better and
better.

“I got a good news” Zoey said

“What is it Zoey” Jay ask

“GSS going to make the new death match team soon this winter, wanna revenge?”

“They will know, not to mess with the lightning”
