Write a letter to Editor of a newspaper condemning wide spread

corruption and decline of moral values amongst public men.

The Mall

August 25, 20….

To
The Editor,
The Tribune,
Chandigarh.

Sir,

Kindly publish the following few lines in the columns of your esteemed Daily
and oblige.

India is passing through a bad phase. A country of saints and sages is today
becoming known for its corrupt leaders. A large number of public men are involved in
scams and kick-backs. Corruption appears to have become the order of the day.
There is hardly any political leader who can be cited as an ideal or a model for the
younger generation. Moral values are also at the lowest ebb. Public men in high
places pay scant regard to decency, decorum or discipline in public life. The politics
of defections and crime has brought morals to the lowest ebb. Everything appears to
be fair in the game of politics. People are today prepared to sacrifice any principles
for attaining power or pelf. All this must end. Our country and its leaders have always
been known for their spirit of honesty, truth, non-violence, charity and sacrifice. We
must learn to uphold those values in social life.

With thanks

Yours faithfully,

X Y Z.
2. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing your views against
large scale defacing of public places by political parties during general
election.

Sir,

Through the esteemed columns of your paper I want to place before the
public some of my views regarding the defacing of public places by political workers.

Everyone there is a general election, the city walls are painted in different
colors by the workers of various political parties advertising the names of their
respective candidates. They deface public places, of various political properties,
municipal notice boards. Besides spoiling the aesthetics of the city, they inflict a lot of
damage on the people. Many of these acts lead to clashes between people
belonging to different parties. The Election Commission of India has made this
defacing of walls a legal offence. Even the fear of the law does not deter people from
spoiling walls and buildings. The Deputy Commissioner should enforce the law
strictly and bring the culprits to book. The evil practice of defacing the walls must
end. The electorate should also punish these law-breakers.

3. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper suggesting some ways to

control the ever increasing number of road accidents in your area.

Sir,

I want to draw your attention to the ever increasing road accident in the city.
Your paper has itself reported six accidents during the last 60 days.

These accidents are taking place due to several reasons. Some of these are
poor road lighting, increasing encroachments, open violation of the traffic rules by
drivers, absence of safety procedures and lack of traffic educations. The Deputy
Commissioner of the city must chalk out a comprehensive plan to improve the traffic
situation in the city. School children should be given proper traffic education. All
vehicle drivers should be made to pass a screening test to judge their suitability as
drivers. Roads should not only be repaired and widened but should also be provided
with Sodium lamps to provide sufficient lighting. Helmet wearing law should be
strictly enforced. Those violating traffic rules should not be allowed to go scot free.
The traffic police should be pulled up to perform their duty honestly and efficiently.
These and many more steps need to be urgently taken to check this menace of
increasing road accidents.
4. Write a letter to the Editor of a newspaper expressing your concern on
the increasing number of crimes in society.

Sir,

Kindly permit me to express my concern on the increasing number of crimes

in society during the past few years.

The crime graph in the country has been recording a spurt for the last few
years. Crimes against women and children have increased manifold during the
recent past. This alarming rate of increase in crimes is a cause of concern for all
right thinking citizens in the country. Lack of moral educations, propagation of
violence in violence in films and television serials, irresponsible police behavior and
a desire for easy money or undeserved prosperity in life is some of the reasons that
lead to crimes.

This situation must be tackled before it is too late. A multipronged strategy

should be evolved to check crime in society. The public at large and the students in
particular should be educated and told to respect the sanctity of life and individual
liberty. The police force need to be educated to handle the situation intelligently and
sympathetically. The media should be forced to play a responsible positive role.

I am sure things will improve before all is lost.

5. Write a letter to the Editor of a newspaper to create awareness among

the public about pollution buzzards.

Sir,

Through the esteemed column of your newspaper, I wish to create an

awareness among the public about pollution hazards.

Today the world has become too materialistic. The Mammon worshipping
has made us insensitive to the pollution problems we are creating for ourselves and
our society. Pollution has become a threat to mankind.

We must understand that the world today is preoccupied with the problem of
pollution control. In spite of a number of Acts, Legislations, Constitutional
amendments and Pollution Central Board our country has failed to check this threat.

Let us look into the matter any try to make people understand their role. The
factors responsible for Air and Water pollution must be removed to make the
environment clean.

Air pollution is a serious threat at present. Our atmosphere is composed of

various gases. It is never pure because various types of other gases are added to it
by nature or man-made sources or both. Man-made sources are smoke, and gases
produced by burning of coal or oil. Increase in vehicular traffic also has made the
situation worse. The increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is affecting the
global temperature. The automobile exhaust and forest fire abounds in carbon
monoxide. Its concentration affects the nervous system and cause s suffocation,
giddiness, headache among human beings. It decreases nitrogen fixing ability in
plants. Excess of Nitrogen, Sulphur dioxide etc. can affect the functioning of the
brain and kidneys. Lung cancer, internal bleeding and blockage of respiratory system
are among its serious effects. Water pollution is also playing havoc with human life.

Water becomes polluted when some foreign substance is present in it. It

present in it. It degrades its quality and makes it unfit or harmful for use. This foreign
substance is detrimental to the health of man, animals and plants. In other words,
the quality of water changes and it becomes less suitable for drinking purposes,
agricultural activities, for aquatic creature or other purpose. Polluted water can cause
various intestinal infections like cholera or dysentery or certain diseases like
jaundice.

Sewage is an important source of pollution in urban centers. Liquid waste

comes from residential areas, institutions, hotels, hospitals etc. it is discharged into
nearby water bodies or disposed in open low-lying areas. The community waste
carries putrid organic matter. It gives rise to bad odor and various pathogenic germs.
This also leads to pollution of underground water. On the other hand Industrial
waste, in the industrial waste affects the growth of plant life too.

I have tried to bring in the lime-light the sources of pollution and its effects on
human and plant life.

I hope this will awaken the people to their role in making the environment clean.
