BALDWIN — The Lake
County Sheriff ’s Office is
teaming up with an Ohio-
based company to help area
residents respond more ef-
fectively to an active shoot-
er situation this summer.
ALICE — short for Alert,
Lockdown, Inform, Coun-
ter, and Evacuate — is a
training program designed
by the ALICE Training In-
stitute for law enforcement,
schools, universities, hospi-
tals, businesses and places
of worship.
The program will be held
at Baldwin Community
Schools on July 17 and 18.
The two-day instructor
course is designed to teach
proactive survival strate-
gies for violent intruder or
active shooter incidents.
The goal of the ALICE
program is to provide
individuals with survival-
enhancing options for those
critical moments in the gap
between when a violent
situation begins and when
law enforcement arrives on
the scene.
The company said the
program is in line with
recommendations from
Department of Justice,
Department of Homeland
Security, Department of
Health and Human Ser-
vices, Federal Emergency
Management Agency, White
House, Department of Edu-
cation, Federal Bureau of
Investigation, and some fed-
eral and state agencies.
The company also said
the training addresses the
fallacies of a “one-size-
fits-all response plan” by
explaining the truths and
realities of violent intruder
events.
“The reality is that ex-
tremely tragic outcomes in
these events can be miti-
gated. They are very much
survivable,” the company
said in a release.

in the Evart Middle School au-
ditorium, dozens spoke out in
opposition and support, citing
concerns from earthquakes to
smells and noises to the fate of
frogs and the surrounding wet-
land habitat.

contact with a subject with
a warrant. The subject was
arrested and transported
to the Osceola County Jail
where they were lodged on
their warrant.

• Miscellaneous — Offi-
cers were called to a civil
dispute. The complainant
was advised of their options
and the scene was cleared.
Public record
• Local resident called
RCPD concerned that she
had placed an online order
for $500 worth of merchan-
dise and had mistakenly
entered the wrong house
numbers in the shipping
address. She reported at-
tempting to contact the
owner of the address with
no response. The investigat-
ing officer found that the
owners of the delivered ad-
dress were out of town and
a neighbor had placed the
packages inside the home.
The packages were then re-
trieved from the residence
and given to the correct
owners. Case closed.
• Officers located a 24-year-
old female at her place of
employment. Knowing she
held a warrant for Failure
to Appear, she was placed
under arrest. She was then
transported to the Osceola
County Jail and lodged
without incident.
3/5/18
• While performing a traf-
fic stop for window tint, of-
ficers found the driver had
a suspended license. The
39-year-old male stated he
thought he had cleared that
up and paid the fees online
with the Secretary of State
office. The man was issued
an appearance citation for
DWLS 1st and cited for the
window tint.
• Officers arrested a
25-year-old male for driv-
ing on a suspended license,
improper registration plate,
no vehicle insurance and
the possession of mari-
juana. The man was trans-
ported to Osceola County
Jail without incident after
the vehicle had been towed.
3/6/18
• Officers were dispatched
to S. Chestnut and Church
Avenue to respond to a two-
staff.
• Officers were dispatched
to a local apartment com-
plex regarding the com-
plaint of a 54-year-old male
tenant. The man reported
children had been bang-
ing on his outside walls.
He added that he was ill,
therefore it was more both-
ersome than usual. Officers
found some of the neigh-
borhood children had been
sledding down the hill and
some had banged into the
outside wall. The children
apologized and, since it was
dusk, was finishing up their
play time.
3/7/18
• School Liaison Officers
were requested to perform
a well-being check on a fam-
ily. The family was found
to be OK, but having some
discipline problems with
the children resulting in
temper tantrums. The offi-
cer issued some advice and
cleared.
• While on foot patrol of
the downtown area, offi-
cers found the front door to
a local business unlocked.
A search of the premises
found nothing that ap-
peared out of place. The
door was locked and se-
cured and key holder noti-
fied.
• Officers received a call to
make contact with the par-
ents of a student at the Nor-
man Elementary School.
The school reported the
parents were not answering
their phone calls or mes-
sages for several hours. The
officer made contact with
the parents at their resi-
dence, advised both of them
of the situation with their
child and that they needed
to respond to the school
and pick up the child. It
was also advised that while
there, all emergency con-
tact information be updated
with the school. Due to past

alarm. Per Mecosta County
Central Dispatch, the alarm
company advised motion
sensor activation in the
rear office. The responding
officer performed a perim-
eter search and found the
building to be secure. Once
the key holder arrived on
scene, entry was gained and

to assist the Osceola Coun-
ty Sheriff ’s Department
with an agitated patient at
Community Mental Health
Department. The patient
did not appear agitated, he
stated he was frustrated
because the medications
were having adverse effects
and no one would listen to
him. The patient was trans-
ported to Spectrum Health
Hospital Reed City campus
emergency room for an
evaluation.
• Officers were dispatched
to respond to the Proba-
tion/Parole Offices and as-
sist in the arrest a 46-year-
old male who was in viola-
tion of his probation. The
man was then transported
to the Osceola County Jail
where he was lodged with-
out incident.
• Osceola County Sher-
iff ’s Department requested
assistance in serving two
8-count felony warrants.
The 52-year-old male sub-
ject was taken into custody
by the OCSD. The RCPD
took the 44-year-old female
into custody and trans-
ported her to the Osceola
County Jail where she was
lodged without incident.
• Officers were dispatched
to a two-car private prop-
erty accident with minor
damage and no injuries re-
ported.
• Officers were notified of
