This pre-assessment and the five lessons that follow are designed for fourth grade small
group reading students at Camden Rockport Elementary School. The majority of my students
goals focus on reading with fluency and accuracy to support comprehension and to apply grade
level phonics and word analysis skills to decode words. Through these lessons students will work
on improving reading with fluency and accuracy at a few different times. Students will also put
their word analysis and phonics skills to the test to complete their independent work in decoding
words. These lessons focus on reading a chapter book with fluency and accuracy and then using
that book to decode words they struggled with, while breaking the words into the different types
of syllables. The students will also work on decoding several other multisyllabic words using
decoding strategies to determine the word and gain a better understanding of word pronunciation
and meaning. Each day students will focus on reviewing a spelling rule and practicing this
spelling rule using bray tiles to first sound out the word and then spell the word. For the last part
of the lesson the students focus on determining the meaning of words based on the prefix and
suffix the word has. Theses lessons will take place during their reading time in the resource
room. These lessons will be taught over the span of five days.
The table below organizes the learning goals, objectives and activities aligned to each
lesson.

For my teacher work sample I have decided to work with one individual student for their
reading group who receives This particular student struggles with reading fluency and accuracy
and, using grade level phonics and word analysis skills to decode words. This student receives
specialized instruction for reading. Keeping all of this information in mind I have implemented a
lesson which provides ample opportunities for the student to practice her decoding skills and
apply those skills in improving her reading fluency and accuracy. I have used the information
gained from my contextual factors analysis to create lessons that meat her IEP goals and directly
align with the common core state standards. I learned from this research that this student is
below her peers in the grade level bench marks based on her NWEA scores. Using the
information gained from this research has proven to beneficial as I have been able to learn what
