GENERAL DESCRIPTION 1-1

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This chapter provides descriptive information on the NEC 5000iPS (5000iP Series) used in
both the Ethernet and Time Division Multiplex (TDM) network. Included herein are
related system configuration and system overviews.

1.1 GENERAL
The 5000iPS is the equipment designed to converge the high density trunk route
transmissions, supporting the versatile transportations of native TDM and Ethernet traffics,
as well as the link and each transportation level’s independent ring protections.

The 5000iPS provides up to 280 Mbps transmission capacity per radio link and advanced
modulation scheme operating in 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 GHz band.

The 5000iPS consists of the RF Branching/Duplexing Unit, Transmitter/Receiver Unit, and

Modulation/Demodulation/Data Processing Unit in small height ETSI width rack, owing
its high performance and reliability in a small from factor to NEC’s rigid TQC activities
and vast experience in the wired and wireless communication fields.

The 5000iPS provides fourteen front accessible universal-card slots that accommodate a
wide range of interface modules satisfying various D/I and/or topology requirements. It
can configure up to ten 1+0, five 1+1 twin-path, hot standby, and diversity radio link
arrangements.

In addition, using NEC’s most advanced cross polarization interface canceling techniques,
transmission capacity of up to 560 Mbps is supported utilizing the same radio frequency
channel.

The 5000iPS enables these without any header suppression/compression of packet data.

APPENDIX 1. 5000S/IP HYBRID CONFIGURATION

A1.1 GENERAL
The 5000S/IP Hybrid System is the equipment designed to add the 5000iPS functions to
5000S by mounting the 5000iPS MDP.

When existing 5000S is used, it can be converted to Hybrid configuration by upgrading the
TRP/SD Firmware, and adding the 5000iPS MDP to lower MDP position.

For details, refer to Existing 5000S Upgrade Procedure.

Because it is combined of 5000S system and 5000iPS system, the following relevant
manuals are needed for handling.

Usage Notice:

1. The Supervision data is branched to each system configuration in radio section.

When 5000S / IP Hybrid configuration in same direction in above, the 5000S - 5000iPS
connection must be done in one point (above Station-A double solid line), because, 5000S
does NOT have data loop prevention function.
If connect 5000S - 5000iPS in plural points, the data loop problem occurs.
Therefore, the branching connection must be done independently. (above Station-B
5000S:solid line, 5000iPS:dot and solid line)
In details of connection, refer to NMS Engineering Manual.

2. NMS (Network Management System) is used for regularly remote supervision.

For details, refer to NMS Instruction Manual.

3. PNMT (PASOLINK based Network Management Terminal) is used for installation setting
and maintenance of 5000S section in site.
For details, refer to PNMT Instruction Manual.

4. WebLCT (Web based Local Craft Terminal) is used for installation setting and maintenance
of 5000iPS section in site.
Because WebLCT is installed in equipment, it can be used by Web Browser Software in PC.

5. The above PASO NE and NE2 Port is used for Legacy PASOLINK NE connection, and NE2
is optional function of AUX/SWO module. When needed, mount AUX/SWO, and connect
signals with referring to NMS Instruction Manual.

- TX IF OUT (MODEM) --- TX IF IN (TRP) Cable

- RX IF IN (MODEM) --- RX IF OUT (TRP) Cable (actually, power feed is shut off in
TRP)

- RX IF IN (MODEM) --- RX IF OUT (SD) Cable (when optional SD is equipped)

In 5000iPS section, the power supply switch of applicable MODEM-T must be turn off
before connecting/disconnecting these cables.

- IF (MODEM-T) --- IF (TR INTFC) Cable

- TX IF OUT (TR INTFC) --- TX IF IN (TRP) Cable

- RX IF IN (TR INTFC) --- RX IF OUT (TRP) Cable (actually, power feed is shut off in
TRP)

- RX IF IN (TR INTFC) --- RX IF OUT (SD) Cable (when optional SD is equipped)

2. Because MODEM-T power supply is fed to TR INTFC power supply control circuit, when
the power supply switch of MODEM-T is turned off, the TR INTFC power supply to TRP/SD
will be turned off.

3. In the above 5000S TRP x 5 + 5000iPS TRP case, the power supply cable for FAN Position
No.5-6 must be arranged special connection for power supply redundancy.
In details, refer to A1.3.4 TRP Configuration Notice.

4. The Station Power Supply is branched to 5000S and 5000iPS section via the power supply
terminal short bar.
